All routes are discounted
Booking a flight to take her child to the North for summer vacation in early July, Ms. Minh Phuong (living in District 7, Ho Chi Minh City) was startled when Vietjet's flight ticket from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi on July 6 had many flights priced at just over 1.1 million VND/way, the highest was over 1.6 million VND/way.
Airfare prices for summer travel season suddenly "cool down"
At the end of May, when looking for tickets to plan a summer trip, Ms. Phuong hesitated when she saw that airfares were very high. At that time, Vietjet did not have any flights with prices below 1.8 million VND/way, and the lowest round-trip ticket cost nearly 3.7 million VND. She never thought that buying close to the date would be a million VND cheaper like now.
The situation of tickets not lower than 3.6 million VND/round trip of Vietravel Airlines has also decreased slightly, to about 3.4 million VND for 2-way flights. Bamboo Airways flights have decreased from 400,000 - 600,000 VND/way depending on the flight time. National airline Vietnam Airlines also no longer covers all flights with exorbitant prices of 5 - 6.5 million VND/round trip as before. Instead, some of the airline's late night flights are more than 1.4 million VND/way, and flights at good times are only more than 2.2 million VND/way.
"In fact, buying tickets at this time is about 1 - 1.5 million VND cheaper than if you booked in May. The airfare is reasonable, but the previous time it was too expensive, I was afraid to travel. Taking advantage of the discount, I will arrange to take my whole family on a summer trip" - Ms. Minh Phuong said.
According to a survey on online ticketing sites, most flights to tourist destinations have "cooled down" in price. The biggest decrease is the flight from Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City - Phu Quoc. From the April 30 - May 1 holiday season to almost the end of May, tickets from Hanoi to Phu Quoc have always been very high, from nearly 3.6 million VND/round-trip ticket of Vietjet being the lowest, to the highest of Vietnam Airlines - over 6.5 million VND. Overpriced airfares are identified as one of the main reasons why the pearl island "failed" during the April 30 - May 1 tourist season.
However, at this time, if you buy a ticket from Hanoi to Phu Quoc on July 14 - return on July 18, the cheapest round-trip ticket of Vietjet is only nearly 2.3 million VND, a reduction of 1.5 times. The best time to fly on Bamboo Airways is one-way ticket is more than 1.3 million VND, Phu Quoc to Hanoi has fewer flights but the ticket price is only over 1.6 million VND. In total, the two-way ticket is not more than 3.1 million VND.
Vietnam Airlines also reduced the highest price from 6.5 million VND/round trip to only 4.9 million VND. Flying in the morning or afternoon, the ticket price is about 800,000 VND cheaper, at 4.1 million VND/round trip. If moving to the beginning of August, Hanoi travel enthusiasts can easily buy air tickets for less than 830,000 VND/way from Vietjet, an "unimaginable" price during the April 30 - May 1 holiday season.
The Ho Chi Minh City - Phu Quoc route is even cheaper. During the period from early July to early September, a series of 0 VND tickets from Vietravel Airlines (plus taxes and fees, it is more than 700,000 VND) are still available for customers to choose from. Vietjet and Bamboo Airways also launched many promotional tickets at 69,000 VND, 99,000 VND, including taxes and fees, the total price is still not more than 850,000 VND for one way. Vietnam Airlines also has tickets for only over 900,000 VND/way, round-trip tickets are only over 2.5 million VND, a decrease of nearly 50% compared to the previous holiday season. Many families who had to cancel their vacations to Phu Quoc just because the airfare was too high are now making plans to take their children on summer vacations to make up for it.
Domestic tourism expected to continue to boom this summer
Get ready for a vibrant summer
Mr. Nguyen Huu Y Yen, General Director of Saigontourist Travel Service Company, assessed that after a long period of fluctuations, the high airfares have greatly affected the tourism industry, especially during the recent 30.4 - 1.5 holiday season. Domestic tourists tend to switch to traveling abroad instead of traveling domestically, mostly because airfares are too expensive. Before summer, travel companies were also very worried, predicting that if airfares continued to increase, it would be a "knock-out" for the domestic tourism market.
"However, airlines have controlled well, changed the calculation method to cool down air tickets at the right time, reactivating the domestic market. As for Saigonrourist travel, in addition to the increase in family guests, from June 23 to the end of summer, we will serve many large groups of guests (MICE guests) to Nha Trang, Phan Thiet, Da Nang... with more than 30,000 people. It is expected that in the summer of 2023, the company will achieve a growth of 30% compared to 2022. In general, nationwide, the peak domestic market this summer is expected to still reach the same or more than the impressive number achieved in the summer of last year" - Mr. Nguyen Huu Y Yen informed.
This year, Vietravel Company also recorded many orders from businesses organizing incentive tours, team building, training... for staff, employees, and agents. It is estimated that Vietravel will serve more than 350,000 visitors, including about 26,000 MICE visitors during this peak season.
Businesses are bustling to welcome guests, and localities have also prepared plans to organize many activities and events to attract tourists for the 2023 summer tourist season. For example, Quang Ninh province plans to put 38 new tourism products into operation this summer, focusing on famous destinations in Ha Long City, Mong Cai, Binh Lieu District, Co To Island District...; Khanh Hoa is jubilantly organizing the Nha Trang - Khanh Hoa Sea Festival 2023 with 60 activities and events imbued with traditional and modern culture such as: World Music Festival Program "Ocean Echo", basket boat racing - basket shaking competition, Cau Ngu festival...
The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism forecasts that after the summer tourism boom, Vietnam's tourism industry could welcome more than 100 million domestic visitors and exceed the target of 8 million international visitors in 2023.
