Long Chau Island is one of the ideal suggestions for those who are looking for a new place when visiting the port city of Hai Phong.
Let's explore Long Chau Island through the photo album Long Chau Beauty by author Tran Khac Dat, sent to the Happy Vietnam - Happy Vietnam 2023 contest, launched and organized for the first time by the Department of Foreign Information, Ministry of Information and Communications.
Long Chau Island is also known as Dragon Eye Island or Light Turn Island. Long Chau is an archipelago located southeast of Cat Ba Island and about 50 km from Hai Phong city center.
Long Chau archipelago is a majestic complex emerging in the middle of the vast blue sea, including many small islands, all of which are made of limestone and rugged reefs. There are no people living on the island so it is still extremely wild, currently there are only officers and soldiers guarding the lighthouse and Long Chau observation tower.
If you come to this island, you must check in at Long Chau lighthouse - one of the oldest lighthouses in Vietnam. This lighthouse was built in 1894 by the French and is often affectionately called "Long Chau pearl eye". And for many decades, this lighthouse has played a role in guiding tens of thousands of ships and boats entering and leaving the Gulf of Tonkin.
Long Chau Lighthouse stands out as a bright spot in the landscape and plays an important strategic role in preserving our country's sea and islands.
"Long Chau's Divine Eye" has a very unique dome-shaped architecture. In the middle is a room with a combination of flat lampshades with small light bulbs, called lamp hearts. On clear days, ships 50km away from Long Chau island can still see the light from here.
Standing from the top of the towering lighthouse and looking out into the distance, you will be able to admire the majestic beauty of the sea and sky, and see the massive limestone islands amidst the emerald green sea. It is truly a memorable experience.
It should be noted that the weather and climate on the rocky island is quite harsh in the cold season, the entire vast island sea is covered in white fog, creating a magical space scene, so choosing to go in the summer will have the best view of the sea.
The ideal time to travel to Long Chau Island, Hai Phong is from May to July. During this time, the weather on the island is very nice, it often rains little, the sea is calm, convenient for traveling, taking pictures and exploring nature.
If you want to go to Long Chau Island, from Hanoi, you can take a bus with a ticket price of about 100,000 VND/person to Hai Phong. You can go to Gia Lam, Yen Nghia or Ha Dong bus stations to catch a bus. If you choose to go by car or motorbike, you just need to go straight in the direction of National Highway 5. Once you reach the port, you find Ben Beo Cat Ba to rent a boat to the island with prices ranging from 400,000 VND to 600,000 VND. This rented boat can carry about 10 people. Or you can go to Ben Luan ferry to go with a local water carrier. The price here will be negotiated by you and also depends on the number of people on board./.
