The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) confirmed that Nguyen Van Toan suffered a knee ligament injury. The striker of Nam Dinh Club will be absent for at least 3 weeks. Van Toan no longer has a chance to participate in the AFF Cup 2024 even though the Vietnamese team can reach the final of the tournament.

In the 61st minute, after receiving a pass from Quang Hai, Van Toan moved quickly but player number 19 Oakkar Naing fiercely blocked him. This tackle caused the Vietnamese striker to fall to the ground and could not continue playing, requiring the support of the medical team. The Nam Dinh striker burst into tears, clearly showing his pain. He left the field on a stretcher and gave way to Tien Linh for the rest of the match.

Van Toan will sit out the rest of the 2024 AFF Cup.

AFF Cup 2024 is a tournament in which Nguyen Van Toan left a strong impression. In the first three matches, he came off the bench but always made a difference for the Vietnamese team. The striker born in 1996 scored in the match against the Laos team.

When Nguyen Xuan Son was on the field, Van Toan was immediately placed in the starting lineup because the two understood each other when playing at Nam Dinh Club.

Van Toan replied after the match: “ Everyone has seen how well Nguyen Xuan Son plays. When playing for the national team, I feel a bit strange but very happy. There is no difference between the national team and the club, I understand Nguyen Xuan Son very well .”

However, coach Kim Sang-sik was forced to find another personnel option because Van Toan was out for the rest of the tournament. Tuan Hai, Vi Hao and Tien Linh emerged as quality options. In the match against Myanmar, Tien Linh entered the field in the 61st minute and played very well with Nguyen Xuan Son. He scored 1 goal from Xuan Son's pass and had an assist for his teammate to score.

In the semi-finals, the Vietnamese team will play the first leg away against Singapore. Coach Kim Sang-sik and his team will play the second leg at home.
