This year, the export markets of Bac Giang and Hai Duong lychees are identified as China, the US, the EU, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Malaysia, the UAE, Singapore, the Middle East, Thailand, Hong Kong (China)...
Landing in America, Asia, Europe
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, on June 20, the first batch of fresh lychees of the 2023 crop from Bac Giang province arrived in Houston (USA) by air. Immediately after that, fresh Vietnamese lychees were sold simultaneously at many of the largest supermarkets and Asian markets in Houston, Texas. The retail price for customers is 14-15 USD per pound (equivalent to about 780,000 VND per kg); or 140 USD for an 11-pound (5kg) package, equivalent to 3.2 million VND (640,000 VND/kg).
With increasingly high quality and organic growing process, Vietnamese lychee has become widely available and conquered even the most "difficult" markets such as the US, Europe, and Japan.
This year, the largest export market for lychees is China. However, other markets are also open to this Vietnamese specialty fruit. Currently, early-ripening lychees from Tan Yen district, Bac Giang have been exported to the US market with about 10 tons; the EU, Australia, the Middle East, Japan, and Southeast Asia are estimated to have exported about 25 tons.
In the Japanese market, businesses expect lychee exports to increase by about 30-50% compared to the same period last year.
To be able to export and conquer demanding markets, in addition to growing according to early ripening lychee standards, it must meet many strict requirements.
Vietnamese lychees are landing in the world's largest and most demanding markets.
Previously, on June 9, Thanh Ha district, Hai Duong province also announced that Thanh Ha litchi would be exported to Japan, the US, Australia, and Europe.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Hai Duong province, 2023 is the first year that about 20 tons of Thanh Ha lychee have been served on Vietnam Airlines. The total lychee output of the province is estimated at 60 thousand tons. More than 50% of the output will be for export. Of which, about 10% will be exported to high-end markets such as Japan, UK, US, Australia; the rest will be exported to traditional markets such as China, Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia.
Breakthrough with seedless fabric
In addition to traditional lychee, in 2023, Vietnam will record breakthrough successes with seedless lychee varieties with quality and yield meeting European export standards.
In mid-June 2023, for the first time, more than one ton of seedless lychees grown in Ngoc Lac, Thanh Hoa were exported to the Japanese and UK markets by Ho Guom - Song Am High-Tech Agriculture Company Limited. Of which, 500 kg were exported to Japan, the remaining 600 kg were exported to the UK.
In the Japanese market, seedless lychees are being sold for 4,500-5,000 yen/kg, equivalent to 750,000-840,000 VND/kg.
Seedless lychee grown in Thanh Hoa exported to England and Japan.
This lychee variety was selected and developed by the above company in collaboration with the Agricultural Genetics Institute, and tested in Ngoc Lac district with an area of about 30 hectares in Nguyet An commune, following VietGAP and GlobalGAP processes to meet export needs.
In addition, another seedless lychee product distribution unit of Ho Guom Group also exported a shipment of more than 100 kg from Vietnam to Japan through The Domino Joint Stock Company (Tokyo) for distribution in an Asian supermarket in Japan.
In the Vietnamese market, Ho Guom - Song Am High-Tech Agriculture Company Limited is selling seedless lychees at a price of 250,000-800,000 VND per box depending on the type and weight. Of which, the special box costs 800,000 VND per kilogram, the 2 kg box costs 550,000 VND; the 1 kg box costs 280,000 VND.
The 800,000 VND per kg type is made from lychees selected from farms grown according to strict standards, low sugar content, contains simple sugars so it is suitable for diabetics on a diet, and has 3 times more trace elements than normal lychees.
