Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Pham Viet Hung shared that today's lychee promotion event demonstrates the efforts of Central Retail together with Vietnamese agencies in promoting Vietnamese products in the Thai market, contributing to increasing Vietnam's exports to Thailand. Vietnam and Thailand are major trade partners, so facilitating Vietnam's exports to Thailand is very important, aiming to soon bring two-way trade turnover to 25 billion USD by 2025 as agreed by the leaders of the two countries. We are very pleased to see high-quality Vietnamese lychee products introduced and promoted at the event, and believe that the quality of Vietnamese products meets the needs of Thai customers.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the event, Ms. Jariya Chirathivat - Deputy General Director of Operations - Business Development of Central Group - shared that Central Food Retail with the Tops supermarket chain, a business unit under Central Retail Corporation, always prides itself on sourcing the best food and ingredients from all over the world to distribute in its retail system. With the Vietnamese lychee season at its peak, sweet and ripe, Tops organizes the "Lychee Event from Vietnam", lasting from mid-June to early July at 32 Tops Food Hall and Tops Market stores across Thailand, introducing high-quality and flavorful Vietnamese lychees to Thai consumers. This is the 7th consecutive year that Tops has promoted Vietnamese lychees in Thailand.
Young Thai consumers are excited to buy Vietnamese lychees |
As a leading retail group, Central Group contributes to strengthening trade relations between Vietnam and Thailand through trade promotion efforts and introducing Vietnamese products distributed in Central Retail's retail system is our top priority."
This year, due to unfavorable weather conditions, lychee output in Bac Giang province has decreased sharply, reaching only about 30% compared to last year, causing the input purchase price of lychee to increase, and logistics costs to also increase; however, with the goal of maintaining the promotion of Vietnamese lychee and creating trust for Thai consumers, Central Retail has made efforts to keep the selling price not too different from last year. Specifically, with an attractive promotional price of 399 baht/1kg, reduced to 299 baht/1kg (equivalent to 200,000 VND/kg), thereby creating conditions for Thai consumers to easily shop, experience and actively support Vietnamese lychee, contributing to building the brand of Vietnamese lychee in the international market.

Mr. Paul Le - Vice President of Central Retail Group in Vietnam - said, in order to successfully export Bac Giang lychees to the Thai market, we have selected the best quality lychees, then adjusted the packaging and cold storage methods to best suit the export market. We realize that with increasingly improved cold storage and packaging management, Vietnamese lychees will soon be exported to many countries around the world. Particularly in the Thai market, Central Retail has successfully exported to Thailand since 2017. Thai people now often wait for Vietnamese lychees to be in season to enjoy the best quality lychees in the world.

In 2017, after many efforts in promoting lychee exports to Thailand, the first batch of Bac Giang lychees was exported to the Thai market on June 30, 2017, and received the attention and active support of Thai consumers when shopping at Tops supermarkets and Tops Food Hall (Central Retail Group's food retail chain). Since then, Thai consumers have gradually become accustomed to purchasing lychees in the main season from Vietnam at modern retail channels in Thailand.
