(BGDT) - Leaning on the majestic Truong Son mountain range and bathing in the same Mekong River, the two peoples of Vietnam and Laos have always been loyal and steadfast, standing shoulder to shoulder throughout the history of fighting for national liberation and building the country. Continuing that tradition, Bac Giang province has had many meaningful activities, including the "Nurturing Friendship" Program for the young generation of Laos.
Mr. Nguyen Duc Trong, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial Union of Friendship Organizations, said: Currently, there is no university in the province with Lao students studying. However, every year the province welcomes them to practice in the locality under the Central Committee's "Nurturing Friendship" Program. Thereby, creating opportunities for Lao students to practice Vietnamese, have the opportunity to interact and learn about Vietnamese life, people and culture.

In Bac Giang, the Vietnam - Laos Friendship Nurturing Program is organized annually by the Provincial Union of Friendship Organizations in coordination with the Vietnam - Laos Friendship Association of Bac Giang Province, the Liaison Committee of Volunteer Soldiers and Experts to Help the Lao Revolution in the province starting from 2019. Each year, the Program has practical and new activities such as: Learning about high-tech clean agricultural production, visiting Bac Giang University of Agriculture and Forestry (Bich Dong town, Viet Yen district); Border Guard College (Viet Lap commune, Tan Yen district) ...
In mid-June, Bac Giang province welcomed 33 Laotian students - the "green shoots" studying at Friendship School 80 (Hanoi) - to do fieldwork in Luc Ngan district - the fruit capital of the North; visit, sightsee and learn about religion and beliefs at Vinh Nghiem Pagoda (Yen Dung).
At the places they visited, they had the opportunity to directly experience the actual harvesting of lychees; learn about the knowledge, techniques of planting and caring for lychees, and the land, culture, history and people of Bac Giang. In particular, they had the opportunity to interact with former experts and former Lao volunteer soldiers, thereby understanding more about the kind help and sacrifices of Uncle Ho's soldiers who shared hardships "biting a grain of salt in half, sharing a piece of vegetable in half" to help the brotherly country of Laos.

International student Khamping Sido Ungchanh turns 20 this year. If she weren’t wearing traditional Lao costume and a uniform with the school name on it, many people would think she was a Vietnamese girl because she speaks Vietnamese very well and her way of speaking is also “very Vietnamese”. She said that she was born and raised in the capital Vientiane, and heard her grandparents and parents talk a lot about Vietnam, so coming here to study is her dream.
Up to now, after 8 months of studying hard at Friendship School 80, with the enthusiastic guidance and instruction of Vietnamese teachers, my Vietnamese has improved a lot. When my name was on the list to participate in the experience in Bac Giang, I was very happy and appreciated this precious opportunity, this was the first time I came here under the "Nurturing Friendship" Program. When I arrived here, Khamping Sido Ungchanh was extremely excited, I continuously took pictures with my friends and some veterans from the Vietnam - Laos Friendship Association of Bac Giang province; chatted with the garden owner and other local people of Luc Ngan.
The special friendship between Vietnam and Laos has been nurtured over many generations. Today's young generation is the "green shoots" that continue that special relationship and solidarity. |
Along with this experience were many teachers from Friendship School 80. Young teacher Vu Phan Minh Trang, originally from Hanoi, has been teaching Vietnamese at the school for 5 years and is equally excited to bring the group of international students to Bac Giang this time.
During the trip, on the car, she continuously answered the children's questions about Bac Giang, Luc Ngan countryside, why lychees here are different from those grown in Laos. The children also asked about the architecture of pagodas in the North; the regional cultural customs. At first, the children could not speak Vietnamese fluently, so everyone explained and guided them when they did not understand.
“I think this will be an extremely valuable and meaningful time for the students, helping them have the opportunity to improve their Vietnamese communication skills, understand more about Vietnamese culture, customs and people. After graduating and returning to Vietnam, they will be an important, high-quality human resource and a bridge of friendship between the two nations and peoples,” said Ms. Trang.
Bac Giang province has been implementing many activities to further strengthen the loyal relationship between Vietnam and Laos. In 2021, Bac Giang and Xay Som Bun provinces signed a Cooperation Agreement. Following those meaningful programs and activities, the "Nurturing Friendship" program has contributed to nurturing and caring for the "green shoots". In the near future, these "green shoots" will become healthy trees, bearing fruit, further nurturing the Vietnam - Laos friendship relationship to be increasingly strong, forever green, and forever sustainable.
