Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said Ukraine attacked the Russian capital with a barrage of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in a 'large-scale' attack in the early hours of March 11.

Authorities said 74 drones were shot down as they approached Moscow early on March 11. The incident marked the largest drone attack on the capital during the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Mayor Sobyanin blamed the attack on the Ukrainian military. Ukraine has not commented on the information.

“Emergency services are working at the site of falling debris,” Mayor Sobyanin said. The incident killed at least one person and injured nine others, and caused fires in several places, according to The Kyiv Indenpendent .

The incident also forced Moscow airports to divert or suspend operations. The Russian Air Transport Agency announced restrictions on operations at two major Moscow airports, Zhukovsky and Domodedovo, for security reasons.

Meanwhile, Moscow Region Governor Andrei Vorobyov said some residents were forced to evacuate from apartment buildings in the Ramenskoye district (Moscow), about 50 km southeast of the Kremlin.

TASS news agency quoted the Russian Defense Ministry as saying that its forces had intercepted a massive attack by 337 Ukrainian UAVs in several regions, including 91 in the Moscow region, 126 in the Kursk region, 38 in the Bryansk region and others in the Belgorod, Ryazan, Kaluga, Lipetsk, Oryol, Voronezh and Nizhny Novgorod regions.

The airstrike came as Kyiv and Washington delegations were due to meet in Saudi Arabia to discuss peace terms and ways to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said this was not the first time Ukraine had launched drones at Moscow on the day a high-level delegation was scheduled to visit the Russian capital. Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Feridun Sinirlioglu is scheduled to visit Russia on March 11.

In another development, Mr. Lubos Blaha, a member of the European Parliament, commented that Russia is winning the special military campaign and holding the initiative on the battlefield. He shared with TASS that: "Ukraine has no chance now, Ukraine has no manpower and without the US, they have no ability to defend their territory."
