UEFA explains why Messi is in the top 3 nominees for the Best Player award

"Why is Messi nominated?", UEFA's article clarified: "Although Messi started the season with PSG and ended it with a second Ligue 1 title, it was his performance at the 2022 World Cup with the Argentina team that really caught the eye."
"Messi became the first Argentine to lift the World Cup trophy since Diego Maradona. He scored seven goals and won the Golden Ball for best player at the finals. In March, he also became only the third player in history to reach 100 goals in international matches," UEFA added.
In total, in the 2022-2023 season, Messi won major titles including World Cup champion, World Cup Golden Ball, Ligue 1 champion. He played 7 matches in the Champions League, scored 4 goals and had 4 assists, and won the title of Best Player of the Match once. In domestic tournaments with PSG, Messi played 32 matches, scored 16 goals and had 16 assists.
UEFA also pointed out three matches in the 2022-2023 season, Messi played with top performances, including the 2022 World Cup round of 16 match between Argentina and Australia, the final match against France and the match helping PSG beat Maccabi Haifa Club with a score of 7-2 in the Champions League.
Messi currently plays for Inter Miami Club in MLS (USA), after 6 matches scoring 9 goals
Messi currently plays for Inter Miami in the MLS (USA). He just had his first press conference with the American press on August 18.
Messi said: "For me, individual titles like the Ballon d'Or are important and meaningful. But, as I have said many times before, individual titles cannot be compared to the collective. I was lucky enough to win the World Cup. That is the title that I lack. So now I enjoy every moment of my life. Individual titles, if any, are fine, but if not, I am still satisfied with what I have achieved."

Messi also confirmed that he chose to come to Inter Miami because of his family. "It was a bit difficult at first because the weather was very hot and humid. But everything is stable and we quickly adapted. I am still looking for a suitable house for my family. We will try to help Inter Miami win the Leagues Cup to satisfy the fans," Messi added.
