After recent quiet but decisive moves, billionaire Elon Musk has finally revealed information about the new artificial intelligence (AI) project he is developing to compete with technology giants like Google and Microsoft.
“I’m going to start something I call TruthGPT – a truth-seeking AI to understand the nature of the universe,” the billionaire shared in an exclusive interview on Fox News on the evening of April 17.
Elon Musk was an early investor in OpenAI — the startup behind ChatGPT, and co-chaired the company's board when it was founded in 2015 as a nonprofit AI research lab.
However, in 2018, Mr. Musk left the company to focus on building Tesla’s autonomous driving system. In an interview on April 17, he said that OpenAI is now closely allied with Microsoft and is no longer a nonprofit organization.

The TrueGPT news comes after the Tesla CEO reportedly poached talent from Alphabet subsidiary DeepMind and purchased around 10,000 GPU chips from NVIDIA to train a Large Language Model (LLM) based on OpenAI's ChatGPT chatbot model.
In addition, the billionaire also registered an artificial intelligence company X.AI in Nevada, USA. These moves show his special interest in the booming field of AI, despite his repeated warnings about its dangers.
“AI is more dangerous than poorly managed planes, poorly manufactured or poorly maintained cars, because it has the potential to destroy an entire civilization,” he said.
In March, the world's second-richest man signed a letter calling on labs to pause AI development for at least six months to limit potential risks to society .
