In the second match of Group E of the 2023 Women's World Cup on the afternoon of July 27, the Vietnamese women's team lost 0-2 to Portugal. Telma Encarncao and Kika Nazareth were the ones who scored to bring victory to Portugal.
Determined to find a positive result against Portugal, the Vietnamese women's team took to the field with the strongest lineup, with the return of midfielders Duong Thi Van and Nguyen Thi Thanh Nha. Meanwhile, the Portuguese team had 7 changes compared to the previous match.

Unlike the previous match, the Vietnamese girls raised their formation to attack right from the start. However, the Portuguese team quickly created 2 dangerous approaches to the goal by Jessica Silva and Francisca Nazareth.
In the 7th minute, from an attack on the right wing, Lucia Alves passed the ball to Telma Encarncao who cushioned the ball close to the goal, making it into the net of goalkeeper Kim Thanh, opening the score 1-0.
After making an excellent save in a one-on-one situation with Lucia Alves, goalkeeper Kim Thanh once again conceded a goal. In the 21st minute, Encarnacao made a pass just in time for Kika Nazareth to finish, raising the score to 2-0.

Despite being down 2-0, the Vietnamese women's players did not collapse and remained calm to regain their form. Even in the final minutes of the first half, the Vietnamese team had a few clear attacks, but did not create any clear opportunities. In the 43rd minute, Huynh Nhu passed the ball to the sideline for Bich Thuy to run down, handle the ball and shoot, but Bich Thuy's shot could not beat goalkeeper Morais.
In the second half, the Vietnamese women's team defended more tightly and waited for counter-attack opportunities. Meanwhile, the Portuguese women's team continued to launch many attacks.
The Portuguese women's team used a variety of attacking options, from long-range shots to shots in the penalty area. However, shots from Marchao, Jessica, Telma, Jacinto, and Nazareth were either blocked by goalkeeper Kim Thanh or were off target. 2-0 was the final score of the match.
Losing 0-2, the Vietnamese women's team no longer has a chance to continue, but the attack line has improved. This will be the motivation for the Vietnamese women's team to hope to score their first World Cup goal in the final match of Group E against the Netherlands.
In the final match, the Vietnamese women's team will meet the Netherlands (4 points) at 2:00 p.m. on August 1, while Portugal (3 points) will meet the US (4 points) in the same match.
