The People's Committee of Cau Giay District has just issued a decision to allow the establishment of the Gifted Secondary School of the University of Education under the Hanoi National University of Education.

This new school is called HNUE Elite Middle School (abbreviated as HEMS) and is located at 136 Xuan Thuy, Dich Vong Hau Ward, Cau Giay District, Hanoi City.

The news of an additional secondary school inside a teacher training university amid the "hot" 6th grade enrollment in Hanoi has attracted the attention of many parents.

The issue that parents are most concerned about is whether the school will be able to enroll students in time for the 2025-2026 school year; which gifted classes will the school enroll in; will there be an entrance exam or a review, and if so, what will the format be?

Through VietNamNet 's research, in the project, the registered content of educational activities of the Gifted Secondary School of the University of Education is to train gifted students according to each student's ability on the basis of ensuring comprehensive education in ethics, intelligence, aesthetics, basic life skills and high-quality secondary school cultural subjects, while fully implementing the comprehensive education plan and program according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training and of the Hanoi University of Education.

Speaking with VietNamNet reporters, the leader of Hanoi National University of Education emphasized that this is a junior high school pedagogical practice facility within the practice school system of Hanoi National University of Education.

"This is not a specialized school or a specialized high school, but aims to nurture and develop talents, so the school's name is a gifted school," he said.

A school representative said that the school will officially enroll students for the 2025-2026 school year from this summer, expected around early June. “The school will announce enrollment before March 31, 2025. In the first year, the school will only enroll 3 classes with about 100 students (each class has about 35 students) and is expected to enroll 5 classes the following year if the teaching staff and facilities meet the requirements,” he said.

The school's admission method consists of 2 rounds, in which round 1 is selection; round 2 is by interview (if the number of registrations is small) or organizing an entrance exam and assessment (if the number of registrations is large and is done on paper).

According to this person, the school has not yet developed a specific and detailed program; however, it is expected that in the first two years of junior high school (grades 6 and 7), students entering the school will study the same general program. "At this age, students have not yet clearly defined their talents," this person said. In grade 8, training will gradually be differentiated according to each student's talents. At this time, in addition to studying the compulsory subject program prescribed by the Ministry of Education and Training, the school will organize for students to register according to their talents, favorite clubs such as Math, English, Natural Sciences, and even clubs about art, music, fine arts, sports, etc.

“Thus, giftedness is understood in that sense, not in the sense of specialized schools or selective classes. Thus, students with special talents in addition to cultural subjects such as drawing and sports can also be developed. Hanoi National University of Education has all the faculties and leading experts to train in gifted subjects,” he shared.

The school will be located in the same area as the Hanoi National University of Education High School for the Gifted. Hanoi National University of Education will also mobilize teachers from the Hanoi National University of Education High School for the Gifted to teach at the Hanoi National University of Education Gifted Secondary School.

According to the decision of the People's Committee of Cau Giay District, the Gifted Secondary School of the University of Education is a public educational and training institution in the national education system and in the system of general schools of Cau Giay District; has legal status, uses its own seal and opens an account at the State Treasury in accordance with the provisions of law.

The University of Education Gifted Secondary School is organized and operates in compliance with current regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training for secondary schools and pedagogical practice schools.

The school is under the direct and comprehensive management of Hanoi National University of Education, under the professional guidance of the District Education and Training Department and under the state management in the area of Cau Giay District People's Committee.

The staffing of the Gifted Secondary School of the University of Education is determined according to current regulations of the law on staffing standards at public general education institutions, within the total staffing of the Hanoi University of Education allocated annually.
