Thang Long School (District 4, Ho Chi Minh City) has completed its 30-year journey sponsored by Saigon Children's Charity and is entering a phase of autonomy. The humanistic values and knowledge the school provides will continue to accompany disadvantaged children.
Thang Long English and Vocational School (Thang Long School - located on Nguyen Huu Hao Street, Ward 9, District 4) has completed its 30-year journey sponsored by Saigon Children's Charity and entered a phase of autonomy. The humanistic values and knowledge the school provides will continue to accompany disadvantaged children.
The school was built from compassion
Established on October 20, 1994, Thang Long School was established with a special mission: to provide educational opportunities for children in difficult circumstances. The school's establishment is the result of cooperation between the Department of Education and Training of District 4 and the charity organization Saigon Children's Charity CIO (Saigonchildren), marking a meaningful 30-year journey.

With over 10,000 children participating in the school’s programs, Thang Long not only provides knowledge but also nurtures love and compassion. Students here not only grow up with rich skills but also carry profound humanistic values.
Minh Nghia, a former student and now an English teacher, shared at the closing ceremony on December 1, 2024: "Before entering Thang Long, I could not understand or write English fluently. My family was too poor to study elsewhere. The lessons and skills at the school changed my life. Now, I am a teacher, ready to pass on what I have received to the younger generation."
Stories like Minh Nghia are clear evidence of the change that Thang Long School has brought. Although Saigonchildren will officially end its sponsorship role from January 1, 2025, the legacy that the school leaves behind will continue to spread sustainable values in the community.
The journey continues after funding ends
In early December, Thang Long School held a year-end ceremony, which was also an occasion to express gratitude for Saigonchildren’s 30 years of support. The event was warm and emotional with the participation of students, parents, alumni, government representatives, and sponsors.
However, this is also a major turning point as the school will operate independently after no longer receiving funding from Saigonchildren. To maintain and develop, the school has planned to become financially independent, while also seeking new resources to continue supporting disadvantaged children.

From 2025, Saigonchildren will refocus its resources on other vulnerable groups of children, such as children of migrant workers, children in special circumstances, and those facing urgent difficulties. Traditional programs such as scholarship programs, building schools in remote areas, and special education will continue in parallel.
A representative of Saigonchildren shared: "Although we are no longer directly sponsoring Thang Long School, the values and educational methods that the school has implemented over the past 30 years will be a valuable legacy. We believe that the school will continue to promote those foundations, creating positive changes for future generations."
