Many schools in Ho Chi Minh City encourage students to rate and evaluate boarding meals.

In addition to organizing Open Days to publicize the boarding menu, inviting parents to visit the kitchen, watch the kitchen share meals, and parents eat with their children to publicize the quality of education at the school, many schools also let students rate the boarding meals or let students bring lunch boxes from home to school...

Parents get to go to school more than just one day

At Hong Duc Primary School, District 8, Ho Chi Minh City, parents are not only allowed to come to school to see how their children eat and sleep during the day, but throughout the school year, parents whose children are boarders can take turns going to school during their children's meal times.

Ms. Phung Le Dieu Hanh, the school's principal, said that for example, this week, parents of grade 5 are invited to school, then next week will be the days when parents of grade 1 can come to school during their children's meal times, then the week after that for parents of grade 2... And so on, if parents can arrange free time, the homeroom teacher will guide them to the school to see how their children eat their lunch and where they take a nap so that they can feel secure when their children are studying at school.

Parents visit the school kitchen to see how their children eat at Hong Duc Primary School, District 8.

At Nguyen Binh Khiem Primary School, District 1, the school also organized an Open Day for parents to visit the kitchen, watch the staff divide rice for the students, and try the school's lunch... to see what the school's lunch is like.

To listen to students' opinions about the lunch, homeroom teachers, nannies, and school administrators regularly go to each class's dining area, observe students while they eat lunch, see if they finish their portions, and listen to their opinions about the food...

Let students bring lunch to class

During the 2023-2024 school year, Minh Duc Secondary School, District 1 is repairing and rebuilding some items. Therefore, during this time, the school's canteen is temporarily closed, and the school uses a unit that provides meals for students. To ensure the safety and quality of the meals, the school's board of directors, medical staff, and representatives of parents conduct regular and surprise inspections of the canteen providing meals for students to ensure the safety and quality of the meals.

At the same time, the school also has days to invite parents to come to school to see the process of serving meals, weighing, dividing, storing samples and distributing to each class as well as eating with their children at school.

Nguyen Binh Khiem Primary School, District 1 invites parents to eat lunch with their children.

In particular, Minh Duc Secondary School also allows students to bring their own lunch to school for them to eat during lunchtime. Currently, the school has about 50 students who bring their own lunch to school. To get approval, parents need to write an application, ensuring that they are responsible for the food safety and hygiene of their children's lunch. This approach has received support from many parents and students.

Ms. Tran Thuy An, Principal of Minh Duc Secondary School, said that from the 2022-2023 school year until now, students have been graded on their boarding meals. Once a month, students are evaluated on the quality of their boarding meals for the month. The school offers 4 levels of evaluation: Very good, good, not good, and terrible. Then the staff in charge will synthesize, analyze, and request the kitchen or meal provider to make adjustments.

Every day a teacher in the school board eats with the students.

At Nguyen Huu Tho High School, District 4, the school is collaborating with the school canteen to cook meals for students.

Mr. Do Dinh Dao, the school's principal, said that every day there will be a teacher/staff member of the school board who will eat with the students to monitor the quality of the meals. Parents can also register to eat with their children. The school always believes that with the support of parents in the school's work, ensuring a more comprehensive educational goal, the students' meals when being inspected and monitored will also be guaranteed in terms of quantity and quality.

Lunch is extremely important for students at school.

On December 28, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City issued a document on disseminating messages on ensuring food safety for primary school students in the city.

Accordingly, the City Food Safety Management Board (now the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Food Safety) has produced a communication product called "Video mini game on food safety". This video contains multiple choice questions in a vivid format, with many animated images. This helps primary school students easily watch, easily remember, and easily practice the principles of ensuring safety in choosing and using safe food for their own health. The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training recommends that the Department of Education and Training of districts, towns, and Thu Duc City deploy this video to primary school students...
