"At 9:30 a.m. on January 17, 10 students out of the list of 24 students with fever and stomachache went to school. The remaining 14 students' health was stable but their parents did not let them go to school (because they wanted their children to have better health). The school has not received information from other cases yet," said Mr. Nguyen.
The Department of Education and Training of Thu Duc City also has a quick report related to the case of many students having stomachaches and absenting from school. Specifically, on January 16, 70 students were absent from school for various reasons. Of these, 24 students were absent due to fever, stomachache, diarrhea, etc.
Currently, the health condition of the students is stable, no student has to be hospitalized. Normally, every day at Nguyen Hien Primary School, there are a number of absent students, ranging from about 40-60 students/day, scattered in all 35 classrooms of the school.

Speaking to Thanh Nien Newspaper reporter, a professional officer in Thu Duc City said that this was not food poisoning related to the school lunch on January 15. This professional officer analyzed: "More than 1,400 students had lunch at the school but only 24 students were absent on the morning of January 16 because of stomach aches and fever... These students were scattered in each class, not concentrated in any one class. There were some students with fever and stomach aches... but they were not among those who had lunch at school on January 15. The rest of the students also had lunch at the school but their health was completely normal."
Lunch meals need to create trust
After the incident of 24 students with stomachaches and fevers staying home from Nguyen Hien Primary School, the Head of the Department of Education and Training of Thu Duc City directed school principals to strengthen inspection and supervision of kitchens and production facilities - food processing places for units using transported meals, to ensure good food safety and ensure the quality of boarding meals for students.
"Schools must create conditions for parents to participate in inspection and supervision to improve service quality and create trust for parents. Principals must promptly resolve arising issues with the requirement of putting students' interests first, absolutely not allowing negative reactions and public opinion among parents," Mr. Nguyen Thai Vinh Nguyen emphasized.
At the same time, the Department of Education and Training of Thu Duc City requested school principals to coordinate with local authorities in propaganda work to prevent street vendors from trading in front of school gates. It is necessary to continue to coordinate with local authorities and the health sector to report the next developments of the incident to the People's Committee of Thu Duc City, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, and coordinate with Thu Duc City security in ensuring order at schools...
