Many people are expressing outrage at the fact that universities publicly post lists of student debt online. Opinions are divided on the matter, with many saying that the schools’ actions are insensitive, disrespectful, and even illegal.

Continuously publish the list of students with tuition debt updated many times

According to Tuoi Tre Online , there are currently dozens of universities (public and private) across the country that publish lists of students with tuition debt on their websites. Many of these schools have been doing this for many years with increasing frequency.

The University of Finance and Marketing continuously publishes the list of students with tuition arrears, updated many times at different times during the semester and school year (expected to have their credits canceled, tuition not paid, credits canceled, the school system cancels all outstanding credits, students with tuition arrears after the extension notice, students with annual tuition arrears...).

In fact, the school has been "collecting student debt" online for decades. Currently, on the website of the Finance and Accounting Department of the University of Finance and Marketing, there is still a list of students who have not paid tuition, dormitory fees for the first semester of the 2017-2018 school year and have not paid their course fees.

The Planning and Finance Department of Saigon University also sends a list of full-time non-pedagogical students who have not completed their tuition and re-study fees each semester so that the faculties can notify the students. This list is then posted on the school's website.

According to this announcement, students whose names are on the above list will have their registration for that semester canceled and will be subject to all forms of disciplinary action according to school regulations.

Students owe 10,000 VND, orphaned students owe sanitation fees are still named

According to the list of students who have not fulfilled their tuition obligations (semester 1, academic year 2023-2024), the Finance Department of Hanoi National University of Education 2 announced detailed information (student name, student code, class, subjects owed, total tuition debt...).

Among them, there are many students who owe tuition for a few subjects, and there are also students who owe tuition for dozens of subjects. Notably, some students who owe tens of thousands of dong, and even students who owe 10,000 dong in tuition are also on this list.

The Financial Planning Department of the Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communications Technology (University of Danang) publishes a list of students who have not yet paid their tuition fees each semester. This list publicly discloses the student's full name, student code, class, outstanding tuition fees for the first credits, and the number of credits to be retaken.

Dong Nai University announced the list of students with outstanding tuition and fees, including detailed information of the students (full name, date of birth, student ID, class, number of credits with outstanding tuition, library fees, sanitation fees, etc. for each semester and school year).

In addition, there is also information noting the status of students who are forced to drop out, have their names removed, are on hold, or are on temporary leave. It is worth mentioning that there are orphaned students, students exempted from tuition fees but still owe 1 million VND in library fees and sanitation fees, whose names are also mentioned in this list.

Announcement of the list of candidates who are expected to be banned from taking the exam and have their registration results canceled due to late payment of tuition fees

Meanwhile, the student affairs department and education inspectorate of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade publicly posted on the website the list of students who extended their tuition fees, with detailed personal information of the students and the time and amount of the extension payment in each installment.

Can Tho University has announced the list of students who have not paid tuition for 2 semesters. If students wish to continue studying, they must contact the student affairs office to explain the reason for not paying tuition in the past for the school to consider.

Every semester, the financial planning department of Nha Trang University also announces a list of students expected to be banned from taking exams and have their course registration results canceled due to unpaid semester tuition fees.

According to this announcement, the school reminds students who have been granted an extension to pay tuition fees, students must pay tuition fees before the school's extension period to ensure academic results during the semester; students who have not fulfilled their obligation to pay semester tuition fees (not eligible for an extension) are expected to be banned from taking exams and have their semester course registration results canceled.

Attached to the notice is a list of students with relevant detailed personal information.

"I can't believe the school did that."

A parent said that while searching for information about university tuition fees online, he accidentally saw a list of students with tuition debt posted on the website of a university in Ho Chi Minh City and "couldn't believe it".

"The school publicly posted the names of students who owed tuition fees online, including their full names, student numbers, classes, and debt amounts. I really don't understand why the school did that. From a personal perspective, I find this very rude and disrespectful. There are many ways to collect debts. But why do we need to publicly announce other people's names like that?", this person was upset.
