Students graduating from junior high school in the 2024-2025 school year in Ho Chi Minh City within the prescribed age are eligible to take the entrance exam to grade 10 of public high schools by two methods: selection and examination. The selection method is only for students who graduated from Thanh An Junior High School - High School, Can Gio District in the 2024-2025 school year.
Candidates graduating from junior high school in Ho Chi Minh City who wish to study at high schools in the city must take an entrance exam.
The Department of Education and Training notes that students should choose to register their preferences near their current residence to avoid being admitted but not submitting their application. Students are not allowed to change their preferences after the deadline for adjusting preferences has passed.
Students who enjoy multiple preferential and incentive policies at the same time will receive a maximum of 3.5 points, and the additional points will only be applied to those who have 3 wishes to enter a public high school.
To take the 10th grade exam, candidates must take 3 essay tests including: Math, Literature (120 minutes/subject), Foreign Language (Foreign Language 1 currently studying at school) with a duration of 90 minutes.
Entrance exam for specialized grade 10, students graduating from junior high school in the 2024-2025 school year in Ho Chi Minh City within the prescribed age with training assessment results and learning assessment results for the entire school year of grades 6, 7, 8 from good or higher, especially grade 9 must be good.
Specialized schools include Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted and Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted. Both schools are allowed to accept candidates who have graduated from secondary schools from other provinces and cities, provided that these candidates fully meet the requirements according to current regulations of the exam. Registration is carried out according to the guidance documents of the Department of Education and Training.
There are 4 essay exams, including 3 non-specialized exams in Math, Literature (120 minutes/subject), Foreign Language (Foreign Language 1 currently studying at school, 90 minutes) and 1 specialized exam according to the registered subject (150 minutes).
The test scores are calculated on a 10-point scale, with odd points up to 0.25. The scores of non-specialized tests are coefficient 1 and the scores of specialized tests are coefficient 2. The score for admission to specialized classes is the sum of: Literature score + Foreign language score + Math score + (specialized subject score x 2).
Students who register have 2 priority wishes to enter specialized classes, arranged in order of priority from high to low (wish 1, 2). If they are admitted to a wish, they must study in that wish, and cannot change wishes.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training has just announced the enrollment plan for the 2025-2026 school year, with priority given to students’ current residence. Schools located on the border between localities and the enrollment steering committee need to develop appropriate enrollment plans to facilitate students to study near their current residence.
At the beginning of the year, students are divided into 2 groups.
Subject 1, priority admission for the following cases: For grade 1, students whose current residence is in the area and within the prescribed age; For grade 6, students whose current residence is in the area, have completed primary school and are within the prescribed age.
Subject 2, students who wish to study in an area other than their actual residence. Cases that are not in the priority category will be considered last, based on the remaining quota of the schools and the decision of the local primary school admission steering committee.
