Son La Provincial Agricultural Extension Center joins hands to build new rural areas

Over the years, Son La Provincial Agricultural Extension Center has always accompanied farmers in transferring scientific and technical advances; building and replicating many effective agricultural models, aiming at developing sustainable agricultural production, contributing to building new rural areas.

Closely following the province's agricultural development policies, the Center builds and transfers techniques suitable to production reality. In particular, it focuses on training, coaching and technical guidance for farmers; deploying and replicating agricultural production extension models applying new scientific and technical advances, such as: Organic agricultural production, high-tech agriculture, safe production according to VietGAP...

The work of replicating and implementing new agricultural models is continuously carried out by the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center in a variety of fields such as cultivation, livestock, and aquaculture, promoting the advantages of each region and each crop; guiding farmers to convert to safe, organic production, and respond to climate change to develop sustainable agriculture. Agricultural extension models are also demonstration sites for farmers to visit, learn, and apply in production.

With support from the budget, the provincial agricultural extension system has implemented 108 agricultural extension models, with 80,408 farmer households participating. Typical models include the model of linking sustainable corn and cassava production on sloping land; intensive SRI improved rice cultivation; safe vegetable production (basic GAP); off-season vegetables; grafting and improving fruit gardens; intensive cultivation of late-ripening longan, grafting and improving early-ripening longan; intensive mango cultivation according to VietGAP standards; intensive macadamia cultivation; support for cage fish farming, biosafety broiler farming with fermented bedding, raising Mong Cai sows and lean breeding pigs, raising honey bees; breeding cows...

Research and apply scientific and technical advances to deploy models of combine harvesters, multi-purpose tillers; models of irrigation for sugarcane; agricultural dryers; solar dryers, etc.

Organizing training and building demonstration models has created positive changes in awareness, thinking and farming practices, helping farmers apply more and more techniques to production. Demonstration models have been accepted by farmers, gradually expanded, formed and developed into concentrated production specialties, producing according to market demand.

In parallel, the Center organizes hundreds of training courses for farmers with key contents on techniques for planting, caring for fruit trees, raising livestock, etc. The training method is a two-way exchange for learners to exchange and share practical production experiences; combining theory with field guidance, helping farmers to easily understand and apply. The Center builds 15 agricultural extension models in the fields of planting, raising livestock, and aquaculture.

Typical models: Intensive cultivation of safe citrus fruit trees, following the organic direction in Phu Yen district; grafting and improving ripe longan in Song Ma and Muong La districts; intensive cultivation of red-fleshed dragon fruit associated with irrigation systems and linking product consumption in Thuan Chau; breeding cows in Muong La and Quynh Nhai districts... The implemented models all achieved the set goals, helping farmers produce in a sustainable direction; synchronously applying technical measures in production, improving productivity and product quality, aiming to serve export, contributing to improving economic efficiency for producers.

Joining hands to build new rural areas in Son La, the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center and the provincial agricultural extension system actively promote their roles, helping localities build and effectively implement production development projects; promote the application of scientific and technological advances in production, improve productivity, quality and efficiency. At the same time, organize production linkages associated with product consumption in a sustainable and stable manner, contributing to accelerating the process of building new rural areas in the locality.
