Provincial Agricultural Extension Center: Striving to complete targets and tasks in 2023

Việt NamViệt Nam09/08/2023

In the first 6 months of 2023, the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center (AEC) strived to complete its key tasks well, with the highlight being doing a good job of training and transferring science and technology, and coordinating the implementation of new and effective production models.

According to the provincial Center for Agricultural Extension, since the beginning of the year, the unit has organized 17 training courses on cultivation, livestock and aquaculture techniques for farmers with 870 participants, reaching 174% of the plan (KH). Thanks to access to new production techniques, farmers across the province have introduced high-value crop and livestock varieties into production, contributing to increasing income. Responding to the "Peak Month for the Poor" in 2023, from the beginning of the year, the Center has coordinated with localities and related units to sponsor 4 poor households in 2 villages of My Hiep and Nha Hui, My Son commune (Ninh Son), and at the same time organized a training course on green bean production techniques, supporting Thinh Vuong 9999 hybrid corn varieties with a quantity of 32 kg for 4 sponsored households. In the winter-spring crop of 2022-2023, 4 households were sponsored, including Bay Thi Bi, Tran Ngam, Nguyen Xuan Viet, and Nguyen Thi Tho, who planted 0.8 hectares of green beans and 0.8 hectares of corn. Up to now, the green beans have been harvested, with an average yield of 450 kg/ha, and the corn is in the fruit ripening stage, ready for harvest.

The implementation of programs and projects has also received attention, creating positive changes. From the central and provincial budgets, the Center has implemented 6 projects and models for cultivation, livestock and aquaculture. For example, the project "Building a model for production, processing and preservation of green roughage for grass-fed livestock adapting to climate change" implemented in Xuan Hai commune (Ninh Hai) with a scale of 9 hectares has initially been effective, 45 households participating in the project produced 60 tons of animal feed. Some projects and tasks such as: "Building a model for biomass corn production as green feed for livestock", "Supporting essential materials for improving cattle herds using artificial insemination techniques" are being promoted to promote sustainable development of the livestock industry. The replication of science and technology transfer models is carried out in the direction of focusing on prioritizing specific crops and livestock of the province. Among the 5 effective replication models, the most notable is the model of commercial cobia farming using HDPE cages; the horizontal detector on fishing boats has been effectively deployed, contributing to the development of the marine economy.

Up to now, 3 of the 6 main targets that the Center registered to compete in 2023 have met and exceeded the plan. Specifically, the target of technical training for farmers reached 176% of the plan; the target of replicating effective models reached 100% of the plan; the target of replicating new models reached 100% of the plan. The remaining targets: Consulting and supporting localities to establish Community Agricultural Extension Teams; Organizing laser leveling of fields; Implementing crop conversion associated with business linkages to support production reached 20-42% of the plan. The Center has analyzed and evaluated the advantages and difficulties in performing the tasks, and at the same time proposed solutions to complete the remaining targets.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Thuan, Director of the Provincial Agricultural Research Center, said: Promoting the achieved results, in the last 6 months of the year, the unit will focus on coordinating with the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection and localities to implement crop conversion associated with business linkages to consume products in the province. Continue to implement the model of leveling the field; organize training, support materials; monitor and provide technical support for ongoing models, programs and projects. Carry out the task of supporting the pilot model of goat and sheep value chains towards export.
