North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has called for an increase in the number of uranium enrichment centrifuges to strengthen self-defensive nuclear weapons, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported.
Kim Jong-un made the call during a visit to the Nuclear Weapons Institute and a weapons-grade nuclear material production facility. The report did not disclose the locations of the facilities or the dates of the inspections. Kim Jong-un stressed the need to increase the number of centrifuges to increase the number of self-defense nuclear weapons in line with the line of the Workers' Party of Korea to build a nuclear armed force.

According to Yonhap news agency, this is the first time that North Korea has publicly disclosed a uranium enrichment facility. South Korean and US intelligence agencies believe that North Korea is operating uranium enrichment facilities at the Kangson nuclear complex, near the capital Pyongyang, and at Yongbyon. In 2010, Pyongyang invited Siegfried Hecker, a famous American nuclear scientist, to inspect the uranium enrichment facility at Yongbyon.
Yonhap news agency commented that Pyongyang's sudden public disclosure of its uranium enrichment facility could be a move to show off its capabilities ahead of the US presidential election taking place at the end of November.
