The image of exhausted doctors and nurses sleeping on the ground in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic will always be remembered. Their sacrifices and contributions are immeasurable, and that is why the Party, the State and the people always put their full trust in the country's medical team.
Under the leadership of the Party and the State, the health sector has achieved remarkable achievements. From the grassroots health network covering the whole country to specialized health facilities, the Vietnamese health system has become one of the important achievements in the cause of national innovation and development.
In particular, in recent years, many doctors and medical staff have shown compassion, resilience, and dedication to the health of the people.
It was in these difficult times that they forgot their personal interests, went to remote areas, and participated in treating patients in difficult and deprived conditions. These images not only show sacrifice but also resilience and determination to complete the noble mission assigned by the Party and the State.
On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Vietnamese Doctors' Day, Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan sent her gratitude and congratulations to nearly half a million doctors, cadres and medical staff nationwide on Vietnamese Doctors' Day, February 27. The Minister also wished the health sector to develop more strongly and steadily, worthy of the trust and expectations of the Party, State and people.
Speaking about the 70 years of the medical sector, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, on behalf of the Party and State leaders, expressed sincere thanks to generations of doctors, nurses and medical staff across the country. The National Assembly Chairman emphasized that over the past 70 years, the medical sector has continuously developed and achieved great achievements, contributing to the construction and development of the country.
The white-shirted soldiers were present on all battlefields to care for and treat wounded soldiers, compatriots and comrades. Thousands of doctors and nurses, including the late Minister Pham Ngoc Thach, Professor Dang Van Ngu, and Doctor Dang Thuy Tram, heroically sacrificed their lives for the cause of national liberation.
In peacetime, the health sector continues to play the role of a living shield, caring for and protecting people's health. Especially during the Covid-19 pandemic, doctors and medical staff have not hesitated to sacrifice, endure hardship, and steadfastly fulfill the mission of "treating and saving people".
Over the past 70 years, the health sector has built a solid grassroots health network, covering remote, border and island areas, while strongly developing specialized medical facilities with high technology, making Vietnam one of the leading countries in implementing the United Nations Millennium Development Goals on protecting people's health.
People's health and life expectancy indicators have improved; maternal and child mortality rates have decreased rapidly; many infectious diseases have been controlled and eliminated; non-communicable diseases have been well controlled.
The Vietnamese medical team has successfully performed many advanced medical techniques, especially in areas such as intervention for complex fetal malformations, pediatrics, cardiology, microsurgery, multi-organ transplantation, limb transplantation, endoscopic surgery and many other medical achievements. These achievements have left a strong mark on the world medical map and have been highly appreciated by international friends.
We are very proud of the achievements that the Vietnamese health sector has achieved, and the requirements set forth in the new development stage will continue to create more motivation for the health sector to constantly strive and strongly promote its potential. This is a great responsibility to meet the expectations of the people and maintain the trust of the whole society.
The National Assembly Chairman affirmed that protecting and improving people's health is always the top priority of the Party and State.
The health sector needs to continue to effectively implement policies on protecting people's health, while focusing on improving the quality of medical examination and treatment, strengthening human resource training, and building a scientific, national, and mass health system.
The National Assembly Chairman also requested that all levels and sectors continue to pay attention to and take care of the material and spiritual lives of doctors and medical staff, creating favorable conditions for them to work with peace of mind and serve the people.
The 70th anniversary of Vietnam Doctors’ Day is an opportunity to look back on the arduous yet glorious journey of the Vietnamese healthcare sector. However, on this occasion, many great challenges still await the healthcare sector in the next phase.
The National Assembly Chairman emphasized that the entire health system needs to continue to unite, promote the glorious tradition of the sector, innovate, create, and constantly improve the quality of health care for the people. Vietnamese doctors, cadres, and medical staff will continue to make efforts and contribute to meet the trust and expectations of the Party, State, and people.
In the context of the world increasingly facing many challenges, such as climate change, environmental pollution, natural disasters, epidemics, and new risks threatening global health, the task of protecting, caring for and improving people's health becomes a top priority.
Vietnam's population has surpassed the 100 million mark, with rapid aging, requiring us to develop a strong and internationally integrated healthcare system to best meet the health care needs of the people.
To achieve these goals, the National Assembly Chairman requested the Ministry of Health to implement a number of contents such as protecting and taking care of people's health as the top priority task.
The Party and the State need to fully institutionalize health policies and guidelines to ensure the sustainable development of the health sector. Build a scientific, national, and mass health system as taught by President Ho Chi Minh. It is necessary to focus on improving the quality of primary health care activities, developing science and technology in health, and strengthening international cooperation in the health sector.
Health care for the elderly and population issues need to be prioritized, achieving the goal of improving the life expectancy and health of the Vietnamese people. At the same time, increase domestic production of drugs and vaccines, develop the biomedical industry, and ensure self-sufficiency in the demand for drugs and medical supplies.

Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare: Opportunities and Challenges in Vietnam
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is increasingly becoming an indispensable part of human life, especially in the medical field. In Vietnam, the medical industry is actively applying AI to improve the quality of health care for people, thereby creating great opportunities for development.
With the support of AI, doctors can make more accurate diagnoses and then apply appropriate treatment methods for each patient.
This is especially important in the early detection of dangerous diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular or neurological diseases, where early intervention can save the patient's life. AI not only helps doctors improve accuracy but also helps them work more efficiently, reduce errors and save time.
Virtual reality (VR) technology is being widely applied in medical training. Through VR, doctors and medical students can simulate and practice surgeries in a virtual environment, helping to improve their skills without having to perform them on real patients. This not only helps train doctors faster, but also helps them become more confident and reduces errors in real surgeries.
One of the important applications of AI in healthcare is predictive analytics. AI can analyze data on a patient’s medical history and health indicators to detect early signs of dangerous diseases such as cancer, heart disease, diabetes or stroke.
Furthermore, this technology also helps hospitals manage resources more effectively, predict the number of patients needing to be examined during the day and arrange reasonable examination schedules, reduce overload and improve the quality of medical services.
AI not only helps reduce the manual workload of doctors but also minimizes errors in diagnosis.
One of the major challenges in the healthcare sector is inequality in access to healthcare. Despite advances in technology, many people, especially in remote areas, still do not have access to quality healthcare.
AI can solve this problem through telemedicine, which allows people in remote areas to consult and see a doctor remotely via mobile phone or tablet. This is an effective solution, especially in the context of epidemics like Covid-19.
One of the notable achievements in AI application in Vietnam is the Blife device that supports communication for ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) patients.
This device, developed by a research team from the University of Engineering and Technology, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, helps ALS patients communicate more easily through eye movements. This is an application that combines AI, virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR), bringing great convenience to patients and improving their quality of life.
Although AI has great potential to improve the healthcare system, the implementation of this technology in Vietnam still faces many difficulties. Hospitals, especially in rural and remote areas, lack technical infrastructure and connectivity between data systems. Moreover, the investment cost for AI is also a major barrier.
In addition, the issue of collecting and standardizing medical data is a significant challenge. Data storage systems in many hospitals are currently not synchronized, leading to data not being able to be effectively integrated into AI systems. Patient security and privacy are also factors that need to be focused on when applying AI to medicine.
Despite many challenges, AI will certainly play an important role in improving the quality of healthcare services in Vietnam. With the development of technology and the pioneering of hospitals, AI will help reduce the burden on medical staff and help people access better healthcare services. Applying AI in healthcare will be a long but necessary step to build a modern and effective healthcare system in the future.
