On the afternoon of November 26, in Hai Lang district (Quang Tri), Tuoi Tre newspaper coordinated with Quang Tri Provincial Youth Union to award "Sowing seeds of knowledge" scholarships to 100 disadvantaged students with good and excellent academic achievements.
Long distance to receive scholarship
Each scholarship is worth 2 million VND, including bicycles and school supplies. The total value of the program in Quang Tri is more than 400 million VND, sponsored by Agribank Phu Nhuan branch, Ho Chi Minh City.
Since early afternoon, Mr. Ho Van Cung, 49 years old, residing in Don Que village, Hai Que commune, used a motorbike to carry his second son nearly 15km to the scholarship awarding point. The family lives in a low-lying area, the house has 5 sao of rice, just enough for food.
3 years ago, Mr. Cung suffered from hip osteoarthritis and had to undergo surgery on both legs for 2 consecutive years. The treatment cost was more than 160 million VND, although many expenses were covered by insurance.
After the leg surgery, Mr. Cung lost his ability to work completely and could only do odd jobs and cook. His wife had to work hard to support the family of four in Dak Lak.
Even though his legs hurt and walking a lot makes him unable to sleep at night, Mr. Cung still tries to take his son, a 5th grader at Hai Que Secondary School, to receive the scholarship.
Ho Nhat Thien, Mr. Cung's son, has had to ride his bike to school since second grade. After many years of rain and wind, the bike has become old and unusable, so many days he has to walk and is late for school.
Touching the new bicycle, Mr. Cung and Thien were very happy and excited.

Similarly, Hoang Bao Nhi, class 6B, Hai Tan Primary and Secondary School, was taken by her older sister to receive her bicycle. Nhi’s family has 5 members, including her father who is paralyzed and her mother who is undergoing cancer treatment in Thua Thien Hue. Her older sister had to quit her job to take care of her mother and her younger sisters.
Nhi doesn’t have a bicycle so she has to walk to school every day. On sunny days she can cope, but during the rainy season, walking is difficult for her. Sometimes she gets to school with all her clothes and books wet.
Understanding that hardship, since 2018 until now, the “Sowing the Seeds of Knowledge” scholarship has been spread across provinces and cities. The program has helped students in the most remote areas have more favorable conditions to go to school.

Support children in remote areas to go to school
Mr. Pham Van Hoa - Deputy Director of Agribank Phu Nhuan Branch, Ho Chi Minh City - expressed that, in addition to Agribank's social security programs such as building gratitude houses, solidarity houses, building schools, medical stations, and lighting up rural roads... Agribank also implements meaningful programs to support the community.
In particular, supporting disadvantaged children in remote areas to continue going to school is one of the top priorities.
“Bicycles are not only a means to shorten the distance to school, reduce the burden on the family, but also a hope, adding motivation for children to confidently move towards the future.
We believe that on that journey, each cycle will carry the children's dreams and aspirations, contributing to building a brighter tomorrow," Mr. Pham Van Hoa shared.

Handing over each bicycle to the students, Mr. Le Thang Can - Ho Chi Minh City State Financial Investment Company - confided that he was very happy and moved to return to Hai Lang on a very special day, despite the rain and floods, the children were still present to receive the gifts and affection from everyone.
"I would like to remind you that despite the difficulties, you should try to study hard to equip yourself with knowledge to help yourself, your family, and your hometown," said Mr. Le Thang Can.
Mr. Pham Xuan Khanh - Deputy Secretary of Quang Tri Provincial Youth Union - said that in recent times, Quang Tri Provincial Youth Union has always paid attention, made efforts, and accompanied disadvantaged students to go to school, and implemented many tasks to support students.

After the scholarship award ceremony in Quang Tri province, the program will continue to award 200 scholarships to students in Thua Thien Hue, Dak Lak and Ca Mau provinces, each province with a total value of more than 400 million VND.
In 2024, Agribank Phu Nhuan branch continues to sponsor the "Sowing Knowledge" program with 800 scholarships worth 1.6 billion VND. Thus, up to now, in 7 years, the "Sowing Knowledge" program has awarded a total of 4,565 scholarships, worth more than 9.31 billion VND.
