Ho Chi Minh City holds memorial service for heroic martyrs

On July 27, on the occasion of the 77th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27, 1947 - July 27, 2024), at Ben Duoc Martyrs Memorial Temple - Cu Chi, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City and the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha of Ho Chi Minh City held a ceremony to commemorate heroic martyrs.

Attending the ceremony were Most Venerable Thich Tri Quang, Supreme Patriarch of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha Council; Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Loc, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the City, along with representatives of leaders of the City's departments, branches and sectors; representatives of leaders of the City's political and social organizations; Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, Heroes of the People's Armed Forces; representatives of intellectuals, ethnic groups and religions of the City; representatives of all classes of the City's people, relatives of martyrs, war invalids and monks, nuns and Buddhists of Cu Chi district.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City Nguyen Phuoc Loc expressed his sincere gratitude and remembrance to President Ho Chi Minh, to the generations of revolutionary predecessors, Vietnamese heroic mothers, heroic martyrs, comrades and compatriots who sacrificed their blood, youth, and lives for the nation, for the cause of national liberation, building and defending the Fatherland; sent deep gratitude to Vietnamese heroic mothers, mothers of martyrs, wives of martyrs, wounded soldiers, sick soldiers, families of martyrs, people with meritorious deeds, generals, veterans, officers, soldiers of the armed forces, and exemplary militia from all over the country and Ho Chi Minh City.

Recalling President Ho Chi Minh's teaching "When eating the fruit, remember the person who planted the tree", the City leader said that over the past 49 years, Ho Chi Minh City has always attached importance to the policy for people with meritorious services to the country, closely linked to the socio-economic development of the City and considered it a regular and important political task of the City. Implementing well the preferential policy for people with meritorious services, determining that the work of caring for war invalids, martyrs, and people with meritorious services is a responsibility, a sacred sentiment and an honor, expressing deep gratitude to those who have contributed to the cause of national liberation, independence, freedom, and unification of the country and building and defending the Fatherland, for the peace and happiness of the people.

On this occasion, the Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the City's Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee requested Party committees, Party organizations, authorities at all levels, the Vietnam Fatherland Front, socio-political organizations, sectors, intellectuals, businessmen, and the City's political system to continue to have projects and works demonstrating the traditional spirit of "remembering the source of water when drinking water", linking gratitude activities with activities to educate the tradition of patriotic revolution, national solidarity, ensuring that families of people with meritorious services to the country, living average or above... join hands and unite to develop the city and towards the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification...

On the same day, the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha of Ho Chi Minh City held a Buddhist prayer ceremony to commemorate President Ho Chi Minh and the heroes and martyrs at Ben Duoc Temple. Ben Duoc Memorial Temple is located in the Cu Chi Tunnels Historical Relic Site, a place to commemorate 44,520 heroes and martyrs, heroic Vietnamese mothers whose names are engraved in the Temple, including 9,322 martyrs who were children of 40 provinces and cities of the country who fought bravely and sacrificed in the land of Saigon-Gia Dinh-Cho Lon in the two wars against the French and the Americans.
