On March 7, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism organized a seminar on Japan tourism in 2025. Attending the seminar were Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism Bui Thi Ngoc Hieu, Vice President of the Vietnam Tourism Association - President of the Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Association Hoang Le Quyen; Director of the Center for Foreign Affairs and International Conference Services of the Department of Foreign Affairs of the City Do Thi Anh Nguyet.

On the Japanese side, there were Mr. Takebe Tsutomu - Honorary Head of the Organizing Committee of the Vietnam-Japan Festival, Special Advisor of the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarians' Union; Mr. Ono Masuo - Consul General of Japan in Ho Chi Minh City; Ms. Matsumoto Fumi - Chief Representative of the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) Representative Office in Vietnam and many tourism businesses.

In her opening speech, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism Bui Thi Ngoc Hieu said that in 2024, Vietnam welcomed 711,464 tourists from Japan, of which Ho Chi Minh City welcomed 348,239, ranking in the top 6 international tourist markets to the city. Japan is always in the top international markets that search for Vietnam tourism the most and the top favorite destinations of Vietnamese people in general and the city in particular. Conversely, Vietnam is also in the top 10 international tourist markets to Japan in 2024 according to data from the JNTO Office in Vietnam.

2025 marks the 10th anniversary of the Vietnam-Japan Festival held in Ho Chi Minh City. The Department of Tourism highly appreciates the initiative of the JNTO Office in Vietnam in maintaining the organization of annual Japan tourism seminars within the framework of the festival. This is an effective bridge for businesses of the two countries to cooperate in the tourism market, seek potential partners, expand business markets, and create momentum for sustainable development.

“It is expected that in early November 2025, the City will coordinate with the Organizing Committee of the Vietnam - Japan Festival of Japan to organize the first Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam) - Japan Festival in Japan. This event not only marks a new development step, but also expands the scale of the festival in the two countries, enhances opportunities for cultural exchange, promotes trade, investment and tourism, and strengthens the friendship between Vietnam and Japan in general, especially between Ho Chi Minh City and Japanese localities in particular,” Ms. Bui Thi Ngoc Hieu shared.

The number of tourists from Vietnam is also increasing and is expected to continue to increase in the coming time. Although in reality, many people go to Japan as international students and technical interns (skilled workers).

The 10th Vietnam-Japan Festival will be held on March 8 and 9 at 23/9 Park. This is a great opportunity to enhance mutual understanding and strengthen friendship between the people of the two countries through cultural exchange activities, tourism, sports and many other fields.

“I hope that after this workshop, businesses from both countries will reap many successes thanks to the synergy effect of the Vietnam-Japan Festival. I wish the cultural and tourism exchange between Vietnam and Japan to develop further and achieve many good achievements in the future,” said Mr. Takebe Tsutomu.

Delegates attending the workshop also heard Ms. Matsumoto Fumi - Chief Representative of JNTO in Vietnam provide tourism information between Japan and Vietnam. Ms. Matsumoto said that the number of Vietnamese visitors to Japan in 2024 increased by 8.2% compared to the previous year, with 621,100 arrivals, surpassing the record in 2023. In January 2025, Vietnamese visitors to Japan reached 50,400 arrivals, an increase of 13% over the same period last year. Although the number of Vietnamese visitors to Japan has grown favorably, up to 80% of foreign visitors have never been to Japan before, leading to tourism products mainly focusing on exploiting the "Golden Route".
