Ho Chi Minh City: Many high-rise buildings shook due to earthquake, people fled from apartment buildings

Residents of the Kingdom apartment building on To Hien Thanh Street, District 10, said that while they were working, they suddenly felt dizzy, the building shook slightly, and hundreds of people ran down to the apartment lobby.

Office workers in buildings on Nguyen Hue Street, District 1 ran into the street when they felt the shaking.

Ms. Tam Linh, who lives in this apartment building, said that at around 1:30 p.m., she was in the apartment building and felt a slight headache, a little dizzy, and the door of her house shook slightly. Seeing everyone in the apartment building running to the ground, she also ran down to the lobby. Not only her house was shaken, many apartments of the residents here were also shaken.

Many residents and office workers in District 6 ran out into the street when they saw the building shaking.

In District 7, residents of the Sunshine City apartment building also suddenly felt the building shake slightly, causing dizziness. Many people living in the apartment building ran to the ground to see what was happening and realized it was the effect of an earthquake.

A resident here said that because he had vestibular disorders, he thought it was happening again so he took 2 vestibular pills, and when he ran outside he realized it was an earthquake.

In addition, in some other places in Ho Chi Minh City such as District 1, District 3, District 6, District 8, District 11, Phu Nhuan, Thu Duc City... there were also tremors, many employees and people living in the buildings went down to the lobby for fear of the building collapsing.

According to the Institute of Geophysics, at 1:20 p.m. today (Vietnam time), a 7.1-magnitude earthquake occurred in Myanmar, causing tremors in Ho Chi Minh City.

The US Geological Survey (USGS) website showed the quake as having a magnitude of 7.7. The German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ) said the quake had a magnitude of 6.9 in Myanmar and 7.3 in the Thai capital Bangkok.

After knowing the effects of the earthquake, many people in Ho Chi Minh City calmed down and continued working, however, many people still felt scared when feeling the shaking of high-rise buildings.
