Submit to the Government the Project to protect and promote the value of Vi and Giam folk song heritage

Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Dao Cuong has just signed Document No. 1282/BVHTTDL-DSVH to submit to the Prime Minister for consideration and approval of the "Project to protect and promote the value of the representative intangible cultural heritage of humanity, Vi and Giam folk songs of Nghe Tinh, Nghe An province, period 2026 - 2030".

The project is chaired by the People's Committee of Nghe An province, in coordination with the People's Committee of Ha Tinh province and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Currently, the project has been accepted and completed according to the agreement and comments of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the National Cultural Heritage Council.

According to the drafting agency, the Project was built to preserve the typical cultural heritage, bearing the unique identity of the Nghe An people's community. In 2014, Nghe Tinh Vi and Giam folk songs were recognized by UNESCO as a representative intangible cultural heritage of humanity.

Vi and Giam folk songs are a representative and typical cultural product of Nghe Tinh region, existing and developing only in the Vietnamese community of Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces, bearing the characteristics of Nghe accent.

This heritage has been passed down from generation to generation in the indigenous community, reflecting the identity and continuing the good traditions of the community; has strong vitality and influence, has typical and popular values ​​and is still practiced by the Nghe An and Ha Tinh communities in many activities of social life today.

Therefore, preserving the intangible cultural heritage values ​​of the community is necessary, contributing to preserving the most typical and characteristic cultural identity values ​​of the community, representing the identity of the Nghe An cultural region in history, not mixed with other cultural regions.

Protecting and promoting Nghe Tinh Vi and Giam folk songs also means protecting and promoting the diversity and uniqueness of Vi and Giam folk songs, contributing to the development of sustainable tourism, becoming an internal force for economic development, a cultural product that attracts domestic and foreign audiences.

In addition, the development of the Project also addresses urgent issues, risks and challenges in the current practice of preserving and promoting heritage values, while at the same time aiming to properly implement the commitment to preserve and promote the values ​​of heritages recognized by UNESCO.

The project aims to have 90% of commune/ward level administrative units practicing Vi and Giam folk songs established clubs by 2030 in the delta region and 30% of commune/ward level administrative units practicing Vi and Giam folk songs in the mountainous region; establish 2-3 more Vi and Giam folk songs clubs in other provinces and establish 1-2 Vi and Giam folk songs clubs abroad.

According to the Project, Nghe An province continues to exploit and promote the form of staged Vi and Giam folk songs; build and organize performance programs at the Center for Conservation and Promotion of Nghe Tinh Vi and Giam Folk Song Heritage at least once a week and gradually daily to serve tourists and sell tickets, generating revenue; invest in new forms of expression for performing arts stage associated with Vi and Giam folk songs; build heritage connection itineraries associated with tourism development...
