Toyota Vietnam unexpectedly deeply discounts a once-hot car model

Right in the first days of the new year - 2024, Toyota Vietnam suddenly announced a reduction in a series of popular car models in the Vietnamese market.

Specifically, the new price of the Yaris Cross gasoline version is 650 million VND, a decrease of 80 million VND compared to the previous price. For the Yaris Cross HEV version, it is reduced by 73 million VND to 765 million VND. Similarly, the Raize model is reduced by 54 million VND to 498 million VND.

The Toyota Fortuner model also has a deep price reduction, ranging from 63 - 120 million VND this time.

Of which, the 2.4 AT 4x2 version is reduced by 63 million VND to 1.055 billion VND; the 2.7 AT 4x2 version is reduced by 64 million VND to 1.165 billion VND; the 2.7 AT 4x4 version is reduced by 69 million VND to 1.25 billion VND; the 2.4 AT 4x2 Legender version is reduced by 74 million VND to 1.185 billion VND. The biggest reduction is the 2.8 AT 4x4 Legender version, reduced by 120 million VND to 1.35 billion VND.

Up to now, Toyota has rarely deeply discounted the retail prices of its car models in the Vietnamese market. In particular, the Fortuner model, one of the models that was very popular and "stormed" the market in the period before 2018, was deeply discounted by 120 million VND, which surprised many people.

TMV revealed that since its launch in 2009, about 100,000 Fortuner cars have been sold in the Vietnamese market.

About 5-6 years ago, Vietnamese consumers who wanted to buy a Toyota Fortuner had to wait a long time. If they wanted to receive it early, they had to pay tens, even hundreds of millions of dong more.

Speaking to reporters from the Journalist and Public Opinion Newspaper, an expert in the automobile industry said that in the context of a difficult market and facing strong competition from many other rivals, it is understandable that Toyota would reduce prices to stimulate demand.

In fact, Toyota's sales have fallen sharply in 2023. In the 11 months of 2023, Toyota's total vehicle sales reached 48,364 units, down 41% compared to the same period last year.

This person also said that the Fortuner model used to be a hit in the market, but is now no longer "hot", and car sales in recent times have been quite gloomy. For example, in November 2023, the imported Fortuner version (CBU) sold only 83 units and the domestically assembled version only sold about 210 units.

In the 11 months of 2023, the sales of imported Fortuner reached 779 units, and domestically assembled Fortuner reached 2,504 units. Thus, a total of 3,283 units were sold in 11 months. This figure is far from the golden age in 2017, when Toyota sold more than 13,000 Fortuner units in 1 year.

Despite falling sales, Toyota launches new version

Although sales have dropped quite sharply, Fortuner is still one of the SUV lines favored by many domestic consumers. Recently, TMV also surprisingly launched a new version in 2024 with some upgrades.

TMV said that Fortuner 2024 is a diesel engine model that meets Euro 5 emission standards.

However, with the limited supply of Euro 5 oil in the Vietnamese market, Toyota Vietnam also recommends that customers pay attention to using the right type of fuel to avoid risks that cause inconvenience during use.

In addition, to help remind customers to use the right type of fuel, Toyota Vietnam also puts warning labels on the fuel tank cap and recommends information in the vehicle's Owner's Manual so that customers can use the right fuel.
