Top 20 provinces with the biggest rewards for excellent students

Many localities generously reward students who win international and regional prizes, the highest being Quang Ninh with 700 million VND, followed by Bac Ninh, Hai Phong, and Vinh Phuc.

According to government regulations, students who win gold medals at international Olympics will be awarded 55 million VND, silver and bronze medals will be awarded 35 and 25 million VND respectively. The maximum reward for national prizes is 4 million VND.

In addition, to encourage talent, many provinces and cities have decided to offer large bonuses in recent years. The four leading provinces are all located in the key economic region of the North, which is developing strongly in industry and tourism. The centrally-governed cities in the top 20 include Hai Phong, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang.

At the regional and international levels, Quang Ninh is currently the highest. This province awards 700 million VND to students who win first prizes in international Olympic competitions. The second prize is 500 million VND, the third prize is 400 million VND, and the encouragement prize is 200 million VND. For regional competitions, the prize ranges from 100-500 million VND.

Two provinces and cities with a reward of 500 million VND for students who won first prize at the international competition are Hai Phong and Bac Ninh. Vinh Phuc ranked third with 400 million VND.

In the past 3-5 years, these four localities have had many students winning prizes in international Olympic competitions. In 2023 alone, Bac Ninh won two gold medals and a bronze medal in the international Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry competitions. Hai Phong also won gold and silver medals in these competitions.

Some other provinces and cities also have bonuses of up to hundreds of millions, including Thua Thien Hue, Tuyen Quang, Thai Binh... The remaining localities commonly have bonuses of 50 million VND or more.

At the national level, the common reward levels for first and second prizes range from 10-20 million VND, and third and consolation prizes are under 10 million.

Kien Giang is the only province that awards the first prize of 100 million VND, followed by Bac Ninh, Hai Phong, Quang Ninh and Ho Chi Minh City with 50 million VND; Vinh Phuc, Thua Thien Hue, Ninh Binh, Da Nang with 40 million VND. Not only at the national level, these localities are also on the list of the highest regional and international awards for excellent students in the country.

National and international excellent student awards of 63 provinces and cities

Localities that do not have their own policies, such as Dak Lak, are proposing that the provincial People's Council soon pass regulations on rewards for students and teachers with high achievements. Ben Tre plans to increase national rewards to 5.4-18 million VND. Hanoi is also proposing a special policy, increasing the reward compared to the current 20 million VND for international gold medals.
