(PLVN) - On the morning of December 3, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) coordinated with the People's Committee of Lang Son province to organize the "Forum connecting import and export trade of agricultural, forestry and fishery products between Vietnam and China".
Remove difficulties and obstacles
Mr. Le Thanh Hoa, Deputy Director of the Department of Quality, Processing and Market Development (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) said: China is the largest trading partner and an important import-export market for agricultural, forestry and fishery products of Vietnam. The total two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and China accounts for 1/4 of the total import-export turnover of Vietnam with the world. In the opposite direction, Vietnam is one of China's major trading partners with the world and is China's largest partner in ASEAN.

Import and export of agricultural, forestry and fishery products grew steadily in 2023 and in the first 11 months of 2024, the total import and export turnover was 16 billion USD (up 13.4% over the same period in 2022 and up to 29% to 40% over the same period in 2020 and 2021); of which, exports reached 12.2 billion USD (up 11%). Strong growth items such as vegetables and fruits reached approximately 4.1 billion USD, up 28.7%; wood and wood products reached 1.7 billion USD, up 22.3%; seafood reached 1.4 billion USD, up 23.2%... Up to now, China has licensed 11 dairy and dairy product factories, 9 Vietnamese bird's nest enterprises to import into China. Recently, farmed monkeys and farmed crocodiles also have an export protocol to China. China has recognized a list of 48 live aquatic species and 128 types of aquatic products that are allowed to be imported into China. To date, China has recognized 596 Vietnamese enterprises exporting aquatic products to China...
The current mandatory conditions for exporting agricultural, forestry, aquatic and food products to the Chinese market are that the products must comply with the 2015 Food Safety Law and the Import and Export Animal and Plant Quarantine Law of China. Exporting enterprises must have sufficient conditions for factories, machinery, production equipment, testing rooms for basic quality indicators for products, factories, warehouses and related technical requirements to ensure food safety. The competent authority of Vietnam must inspect and meet the technical requirements according to the regulations of Vietnam and China before being allowed to grant an enterprise code for exporting to China.
Mr. Zhou Bing, Level 2 Inspector of the Chongzuo City People's Government, Guangxi Province, China, said that from the beginning of 2024 to now, the trade turnover between Chongzuo City and Vietnam reached 129.26 billion yuan, an increase of 8.6% over the same period, accounting for 65% of the total trade turnover between Guangxi and Vietnam; in which, Vietnamese fruits are very popular with Chinese consumers. Vietnamese fruits imported through the Chongzuo City border gate reached 710 thousand tons; in which, imported Vietnamese durian increased sharply, reaching 403 thousand tons, an increase of 10.2% over the same period, accounting for 57.4% of the total import volume of Vietnamese durian in China...

At the forum, Mr. Li Rui, Deputy Mayor of Yiwu City People's Government, Zhejiang Province, China, said that many Vietnamese products such as green bean cakes, coconut candy, cashew nuts, dried lychees, durian, jackfruit, and dragon fruit are currently sold in Yiwu City and are loved by consumers. Yiwu City People's Government hopes that the authorities of the two countries and their localities will support and coordinate to resolve difficulties and problems related to the import and export of agricultural, forestry, and aquatic products between the two sides.
Deepening comprehensive strategic cooperation
Local representative, Vice Chairman of Lang Son Provincial People's Committee Luong Trong Quynh affirmed that the forum is an opportunity for Lang Son province, localities, domestic enterprises and traders to meet, introduce and promote business cooperation, import and export of agricultural, forestry and fishery products with Chinese enterprises and traders.

This is an important event that helps managers, policy makers, businesses, traders, and industry associations of both countries have the opportunity to provide and exchange information, share experiences, connect businesses for cooperation, identify difficulties and obstacles to remove; at the same time, propose sustainable solutions to promote and increase the consumption of Vietnamese seafood products to the Chinese market and vice versa.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Tran Thanh Nam informed that, implementing the Vietnam-China joint statement on continuing to promote and deepen the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, the two sides agreed to apply practical measures to promote the import and export of more high-quality agricultural and food products of both countries.
Deputy Minister Nam requested localities and units under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Provincial Business Association to continue negotiating, opening up and resolving technical difficulties in agricultural, forestry and fishery products, maintaining and developing the agricultural, forestry and fishery market between the two countries to ensure quality and sustainability. The functional agencies of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, according to their assigned functions and tasks, proactively negotiate to open new products, add more growing/farming areas, and enterprises allowed to export to the Chinese market; proactively respond to and resolve difficulties in the import and export of agricultural products, maintain and develop the market. At the same time, disseminate, guide and answer questions for enterprises to implement and meet regulations on exporting agricultural products and food to the Chinese market; promptly grasp and disseminate new regulations on import and export, needs and consumption trends of the Chinese people.
The goal for 2025 and the following years is for authorities and localities to continue to pay attention to developing the agricultural, forestry and fishery markets of the two countries in a sustainable and quality direction.
