(NLDO)- On the morning of March 11, General Secretary To Lam met with Chairman of the Indonesian People's Representative Council (Lower House) Puan Maharani.
According to VNA special correspondent, at the meeting at the Indonesian Parliament Headquarters in Jakarta, Chairman of the Indonesian People's Representative Council Puan Maharani happily welcomed and highly appreciated the significance of the visit of General Secretary To Lam and his wife along with the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to Indonesia on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Ms. Puan Maharani expressed her admiration for the Vietnamese people's past struggle for national independence and congratulated the great and historic achievements that the Vietnamese people have achieved after nearly 40 years of Doi Moi, especially in economic development, socio-political stability and improving people's lives.
President Puan Maharani highly appreciated the two sides upgrading their relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership; affirmed that Indonesia always attaches importance to maintaining and continuously promoting the friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Vietnam, believing that General Secretary To Lam's visit will create a new impetus to promote the strong development of relations between the two countries in the coming time.

Chairman Puan Maharani affirmed that the Indonesian People's Representative Council always supports the Government in strengthening relations with Vietnam, emphasizing the importance of enhancing people-to-people exchanges as a foundation for long-term friendship for bilateral relations; promoting the strengthening of relations between Indonesian political parties and the Communist Party of Vietnam.
General Secretary To Lam thanked President Puan Maharani and the Indonesian people for the warm welcome given to the delegation; expressed his deep and good impressions of Indonesia; congratulated the great achievements in all aspects that the Indonesian people have achieved; and believed that the Indonesian people will continue to gain many new achievements in the coming time.
The two leaders agreed that Vietnam and Indonesia are two countries with important roles in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), are reliable partners of each other, and share many similar interests and viewpoints.
The two sides need to make efforts to further expand relations through the Party, Government, National Assembly, people's organizations and localities, contributing to strengthening and consolidating the traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries in the coming time.
General Secretary To Lam and President Puan Maharani agreed to promote economic and trade cooperation between the two countries, striving to reach the target of two-way trade turnover of 18 billion USD by 2028.
General Secretary To Lam and President Puan Maharani highly appreciated the comprehensive, positive and effective relations between the Vietnamese National Assembly and the Indonesian People's Representative Council in both bilateral and multilateral frameworks in recent times; agreed that the two sides need to continue to promote and expand cooperation in all fields, including regular exchanges of high-level delegations and affiliated committees, and promote the activities of friendship congresses of the two countries, in order to promote cooperation and exchange of experiences between the two legislative bodies.
The two leaders also agreed that the two sides will continue to increase information exchange and close coordination, supporting each other at international and regional forums on the National Assembly channel.
The General Secretary hoped that the Indonesian People's Representative Council and the Vietnamese National Assembly, as representative bodies of the people of the two countries, would continue to make more active and stronger contributions to the development of the friendship, multi-faceted cooperation and the Vietnam-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
On this occasion, General Secretary To Lam conveyed the regards and invitation of National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man to Chairman Puan Maharani to visit Vietnam to discuss cooperation between the two National Assemblies. Chairman Puan Maharani sincerely thanked and happily accepted the invitation.
