According to historical records, in 248, Trieu Thi Trinh (aka Ba Trieu) and her brother Trieu Quoc Dat, a powerful district magistrate in the region, gathered righteous men, chose Nua mountain as a base to practice martial arts, raise an army, and drive out the invading Eastern Wu army. Ba Trieu's uprising later failed, and the female general committed suicide at Tung mountain (Trieu Loc commune, Hau Loc district today) on February 22, Mau Thin year 248. Although Ba Trieu's uprising against the invading Eastern Wu army failed, it created a bright milestone in history, demonstrating the indomitable spirit of our nation against foreign invaders, a shining symbol of patriotism, indomitable will, and indomitable spirit with the immortal saying: "I want to ride the strong wind, step on the fierce waves, kill the whales in the East Sea, drive out the Wu invaders to regain the country, free myself from the yoke of slavery, and not bow down to be someone else's concubine", which is still passed down through many generations.

To commemorate the merits of Lady Trieu, the people of Trieu Loc commune built a temple, built her tomb on the top of Tung mountain, built a temple to worship Lady Trieu on Gai mountain, and built a large communal house in the middle of Phu Dien village. During the Ly, Tran, Le, and Nguyen dynasties, temples were renovated, royal decrees were issued, and ceremonies were held with national rituals. Every year, on the anniversary of Lady Trieu's death (February 22 of the lunar calendar), local people and tourists come to offer incense at Lady Trieu temple, historical sites, and organize many rituals, cultural and sports activities such as carrying the Lady's palanquin, and performing the Wishes at Lady's temple. Among them, the palanquin procession (also known as the ball procession) is the most unique, important, and sacred ritual, attracting a large number of people and tourists to participate. What makes the palanquin procession unique is the phenomenon of "flying palanquins". Over the past 17 centuries, the Ba Trieu Temple Festival is one of the oldest, most widespread and most valuable festivals in Thanh Hoa. In 2014, the Ba Trieu Historical and Architectural Relic Site was recognized as a Special National Relic.
