(QBĐT) - In the life and career of an artist, just a few sentences that "take root" in the hearts of the public is a great happiness. Each artistic style will sketch a portrait of the artist, the work itself will make the author's name, and sometimes it comes in the most unexpected way, maybe after just waking up, we suddenly "become famous" with thousands of people following and sharing our work even though it was composed long ago... The person I want to talk about here is the poet and musician Ho Dinh Phuc...
Recently, on all social networking sites, thousands of times have shared the song “Beloved Motherland Quang Tri-Quang Binh” by poet and musician Ho Dinh Phuc with loud, “multi-dimensional” effects. I called him and joked: “How does it feel after suddenly becoming famous overnight?” He laughed heartily, said nothing, and immediately sang the song that was “hot”: “There are days that can never be forgotten, there are loves that are far away and then remembered. There are rivers that shine forever ...
Motherland, I love you deeply and affectionately... Oh Quang Binh, oh Quang Tri..."
I also unconsciously tapped the table to the same passionate, deep melody and was also very proud. Suddenly I felt no longer separated by geographical distance, mountains and rivers were connected, the songs blended into one, and human love became warm and affectionate.
Through the “musical” effect of Ho Dinh Phuc (pen name Binh Son), people began to return to learn and dig deeper into the life and creative career of this late “revealing” U70 author. Ho Dinh Phuc’s first love was not music but poetry. A young man living in the mountainous region, he fell in love and was fascinated by the mountain and forest scenery. From that love, Ho Dinh Phuc became a forest ranger to protect and develop the forests. Wearing the green uniform, he was even more proud and loved his job. To him, the forest was his homeland, his breath...
In his 40 years in the profession, Ho Dinh Phuc only spent 4 short years working in his hometown of Tuyen Hoa-Quang Binh, the remaining 36 years were spent in the mountains and forests of Quang Tri. During each trip through the forests and streams, Ho Dinh Phuc wrote many poems according to his emotional range:
"Oh forest!
wholehearted
Steep mountains are full of danger.
I do not care about hardship
Stick to the forest even if your feet are bruised
Green color of the Ranger shirt
"Resolutely determined to protect the forest".
That's the job, always devoting all his heart and responsibility as a forest ranger, but Ho Dinh Phuc also sometimes, has moments of sadness, standing in front of the forest, he feels so small in the vast, endless space: "The afternoon wind rustles in the forest/Where are the yellow leaves looking for you in the autumn?/The green forest is hazy/I miss you, the fragile thread of longing in the morning and evening/My dear, there are still many hardships...". That "private memory" is the source of strength for Ho Dinh Phuc to be more steadfast in mind every time he thinks about it.
More than 400 poems were born in that context, and Ho Dinh Phuc fell in love with the girl from the mountains of Quang Tri. From here he had a reason to love, to remember, to write more about this land:
"You are a small shadow in me.
A little tilt in the storm of life
Pour into the heart all the bitterness and sweetness, full and empty"
And then it all passed, the days of hardship, separation, longing... finally the forest ranger finished his mission, 40 years of protecting and developing the forest, retired and returned to his homeland, in 2016. "Goodbye, the strange sunset/The birds flying in the sweet mountain wind.../Goodbye, the spring of youth/I dedicate everything to the forest...". And this is probably the turning point, the mark for the poet and musician Ho Dinh Phuc-Binh Son to turn to another path, full of sublimation and more musical. From poetry, Ho Dinh Phuc "transformed" it into music very naturally. His songs are highly appreciated by experts in the music field, and are widely accepted by the masses. Up to now, there are more than 60 songs composed and set to music by him, and some others were set to music by musicians from his poems.
Music and poetry are like the rhythms of time, intertwining the author's moods and emotions, like the songs: Green forests, Don't let the forest hurt, Still waiting for you to come back, You with the forest-sea and me, Around the afternoon...
With his soul and love for poetry and music, it was finally rewarded, that is in 2022, author Ho Dinh Phuc was admitted to the Music Association of Quang Binh Literature and Arts Association.
Like a waterfall hidden under the forest stretching out to the ocean, Ho Dinh Phuc's music has touched the hearts of many people and is no longer limited to the narrow range of the Central region. Wherever Ho Dinh Phuc-Binh Son's poetry and music are loved, there the songs will resound. Initially, Ho Dinh Phuc's music has reaped many sweet fruits. The song "Upholding the profession of justice and integrity" won second prize nationwide in the composition campaign about the People's Court, organized by the Supreme People's Court in coordination with the Vietnam Musicians Association. The song "Resounding in my heart" won second prize in the composition campaign about the Youth Union launched by the Quang Binh Provincial Youth Union. The song "Quang Binh today" won an encouragement prize in the composition campaign celebrating the 420th anniversary of the establishment of Quang Binh province... Many local magazines and central newspapers have published Ho Dinh Phuc's poetry and music. In particular, the release of the book "Imprints" in 2021 has contributed to bringing his works closer to the public.
Now, by the peaceful, clear Nhat Le River, his family lives there, but the old years, the old memories still flow gently and tenderly and sometimes burst into the veins so that the poetry and music of Ho Dinh Phuc-Binh Son can have new steps, new turns...
