On September 18, at the National Funeral House (No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong, Hanoi), the Party Central Committee, the Central Military Commission - Ministry of National Defense and the family solemnly held a memorial service and memorial service for Senior Lieutenant General, Professor, Doctor Nguyen Chi Vinh, former member of the Party Central Committee, former member of the Central Military Commission Standing Committee, former Deputy Minister of National Defense, according to high-level funeral protocol.

Deeply mourning the passing of Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, former General Secretary Nong Duc Manh, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet sent wreaths.

The delegation of the Party Central Committee led by Politburo member, Permanent Secretary of the Secretariat, Head of the Central Organization Commission Truong Thi Mai visited and expressed condolences to the family. Former President Nguyen Xuan Phuc, former Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung... joined the delegation.

The State Presidency delegation led by President Vo Van Thuong paid tribute. The National Assembly delegation led by National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue paid tribute to Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh. Writing in the condolence book, President Vo Van Thuong; National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue; Permanent member of the Secretariat, Head of the Central Organization Commission Truong Thi Mai, and Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai all expressed their condolences to Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh.

President Vo Van Thuong wrote: "Deeply mourning Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh... He was a general with strategic vision, who made many contributions to the common cause of the Party, the People and the Army, especially in the fields of intelligence, foreign affairs and defense."

National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue wrote in the condolence book: "Deeply mourning the passing of Senior Lieutenant General, Professor, Doctor Nguyen Chi Vinh... A comrade, a brother, a very dear friend, who had many achievements and contributions to the cause of Military Intelligence, Defense diplomacy, contributing to the construction and protection of the Fatherland!".

On behalf of the Party Central Committee, Standing member of the Secretariat, Head of the Central Organization Committee Truong Thi Mai emotionally wrote in the condolence book: "... Comrade has made many important contributions to intelligence work, foreign affairs and defense, contributing to building a regular and modern army, making great contributions to the Party, State and People. For more than 40 years in the army, always preserving and promoting the revolutionary family tradition, in any position, always upholding responsibility, enthusiasm and dedication to the assigned tasks".

Writing in the condolence book, Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai wrote: "... Deeply regretful to say goodbye to comrade Nguyen Chi Vinh... His passing is a great loss to the Party, State and Army, leaving behind infinite sorrow for cadres, soldiers, friends, comrades, teammates and his family...".

General Phan Van Giang was moved to write in the condolence book: “The Central Military Commission, the Ministry of National Defense, officers, soldiers, and the Vietnam People's Army deeply mourn comrade Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh... During nearly half a century of revolutionary activities, regardless of his position, he always upheld the qualities of "Uncle Ho's soldiers" and a communist Party member, wholeheartedly serving the Fatherland and the people, always excellently completing all tasks assigned by the Party, State, Army, and people."

Reading the eulogy at the funeral of Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh, Senior Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang, Minister of National Defense emphasized: Senior Lieutenant General, Professor, Doctor Nguyen Chi Vinh was a staunch Communist Party member, a senior official of the Party and the army, a general with strategic vision, courage, resourcefulness, sharpness, decisiveness, fierceness, and prestige of the Party, the Army and the people; a loyal comrade and teammate; a beloved husband, father, and grandfather of the family... The passing of Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh is a great loss, leaving behind infinite sorrow for the Party, the State and the people; for all officers and soldiers of the Vietnam People's Army and his family.

Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh has made important contributions and left many profound impressions in the construction and implementation of the tasks of the Vietnam defense intelligence sector. In particular, he has made many important proposals to the Central Military Commission, the Ministry of National Defense, the Party and the State in planning and implementing military and defense strategies on international integration and defense diplomacy, activities to overcome the consequences of war in Vietnam and efforts to promote Vietnam's participation in the United Nations peacekeeping mission to protect the country early and from afar by peaceful means; create a favorable international environment in defense diplomacy; contribute to enhancing the position, consolidating strategic trust, and broad support of the international community for Vietnam, creating new positions and strengths in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.

With his contributions to the revolutionary cause, comrade Nguyen Chi Vinh was awarded many noble medals and orders by our Party, State and other countries.

On behalf of the family, Mr. Nguyen Chi Duc, son of Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh, expressed his deep gratitude to the leaders and former leaders of the Party, State, Central Military Commission, Ministry of National Defense, central departments, ministries, branches, mass organizations, local government agencies, agencies and units inside and outside the army, diplomatic missions, representatives of international organizations and friends, near and far friends who came to visit, attend the funeral, send wreaths, greetings, farewells and condolences to the entire family.

After the memorial service, the funeral took place at 1:05 p.m. The burial ceremony of Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh was held at 5:15 p.m. the same day at Thien Duc Park (Bao Thanh Commune, Phu Ninh District, Phu Tho Province).

Senior Lieutenant General, Professor, Doctor Nguyen Chi Vinh was born on May 15, 1957, in Quang Tho Commune, Quang Dien District, Thua Thien Hue Province. He was born and raised in a family and hometown with a rich revolutionary tradition; his father was General Nguyen Chi Thanh, the first Chief of the General Political Department of the Vietnam People's Army, who devoted his whole life to the cause of national liberation and reunification.

Comrade Nguyen Chi Vinh has held the positions of Deputy Director General, Director General of General Department II, Ministry of National Defense; Deputy Minister of National Defense. He is a member of the Party Central Committee, terms XI and XII.
