TKV commits to providing enough coal for electricity production in the 2025 dry season

In the first quarter of 2025, TKV provided coal to ensure power generation during the dry season months as well as other production households, contributing to the overall GDP growth of the whole country.

Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Group (TKV) said that in March 2025, the weather was unfavorable, but with flexible direction and management, the Group made efforts to boost production, thereby completing and exceeding the set plan targets.

Quarter 1 exceeded expectations

Specifically, raw coal production reached 3.98 million tons, equal to 113% of the plan; clean coal production reached 3.56 million tons, equal to 101.8% of the plan; consumption was 4.98 million tons, equal to 100% of the plan; earth and rock excavation was expected to reach 16.15 million tons, equal to 114% of the plan; tunnel excavation was expected to reach 25.46 thousand meters, equal to 111% of the plan.

Converted alumina mineral production is expected to reach 127.8 thousand tons, expected to consume 165 thousand tons. Copper concentrate production is 11.7 thousand tons, equal to 106% of the plan, producing 2.65 thousand tons of copper plate; 625 tons of zinc ingot; 16.3 thousand tons of iron concentrate.

Expected production of 1.09 billion kWh of electricity, equal to 107% of the plan. In addition, production of 7.5 thousand tons of explosives, equal to 107% of the plan, consumption of 9.7 thousand tons; production of 16.1 thousand tons of Ammonium Nitrate; consumption of 17.9 thousand tons, equal to 103% of the plan.

Completing the basic targets according to the operating plan, the total revenue of the whole Group in March 2025 is expected to reach 17.94 trillion VND. The total revenue of the first 3 months of the year is expected to reach 44.34 trillion VND, equal to 113% compared to the same period in 2024.

In particular, in the first quarter of 2025, TKV provided coal to ensure power generation during the dry season as well as for other production households, contributing to the overall GDP growth of the country. In the first 3 months of 2025, coal consumption reached 12.71 million tons, of which coal for electricity production reached 10.8 million tons; clean coal production reached 10.05 million tons.

Quarter II/2025, providing 12.4 million tons of coal for electricity production

Entering April and the second quarter of 2025, implementing the Prime Minister's direction to work with state-owned enterprises on "tasks and solutions to contribute to double-digit economic growth, rapid and sustainable national development", TKV has proactively reviewed coal production plans, focusing on processing coal from mixed soil and rock, maximizing mining output.

TKV Group strives to produce 3.35 million tons of raw coal in April; the plan for the second quarter is 10.15 million tons, and the cumulative target for the first 6 months of the year is 20.90 million tons. Coal consumption is 4.88 million tons; of which electricity consumption is 4.18 million tons, the second quarter is 15.8 million tons, and the first 6 months of 2025 is estimated to consume 28.5 million tons of coal.

Coal supply for electricity production in the second quarter alone is expected to be 12.4 million tons, with the cumulative figure for the first 6 months estimated at 23.23 million tons.

Strive for Alumina products in April to reach 131 thousand tons, consumption of 130 thousand tons; plan for the second quarter to reach 348 thousand tons, consumption of 370 thousand tons. Production of copper plates in April to reach 2.5 thousand tons, consumption of 2.8 thousand tons; Plan for the second quarter to reach 7.46 thousand tons; consumption of 8.5 thousand tons...

Explosives produced 6.8 thousand tons in April; the plan for the second quarter was 20.6 thousand tons... Ammonium Nitrate produced 16.5 thousand tons in April; the plan for the second quarter was 50 thousand tons, April consumption reached 17.5 thousand tons; the plan for the second quarter was 51.86 thousand tons...

In addition to other manufacturing industries, in April and the second quarter of 2025, the Group will continue to maintain the operation of factories, ensuring electricity supply to the system with an expected output of 1 billion kWh in April and 2.88 billion kWh in the second quarter.

To complete the coal targets, TKV will strengthen clean coal processing; effectively implement open-pit coal mining plans before and during the rainy season; proactively provide coal types to customers and export markets.
