During the week from January 13 to January 19, the Information Security Department warns people to be vigilant against the following forms of fraud:

- Fraudulent buying and selling of counterfeit money

According to the Information Security Department, the phenomenon of buying and selling counterfeit money on Facebook and TikTok is becoming more and more popular and is causing concern for users. Accordingly, the subject uses social networks to make invitations to exchange money at attractive prices in order to appropriate money from victims.

A series of articles and advertising clips spread on social networks attracted the attention of many people. In the posts, the subjects did not mention the price in order to encourage those in need to message and discuss directly.

The Information Security Department recommends that people use official transaction channels with legal documents. Before making a transaction, verify the partner's identity and related information, and be wary of requests to transfer money in advance.

- Tet "promotion" scam

The increasing demand for travel during the Lunar New Year holiday has led to the emergence of many sophisticated scams.

Accordingly, the subjects created groups and fanpages on social networks to post information about cheap package tours. Along with that were attractive images.

Below the post were a series of fake comments from fake accounts praising the service or boasting about having experienced it and being satisfied with it. In addition, the subject also impersonated reputable travel companies to gain customers' trust.

In addition, there are attractive incentives. However, to receive the incentives, customers must pay the full cost or deposit a deposit to reserve a spot. After transferring the money, the subjects block and delete all contact with the victim.

The Information Security Department recommends that people do not provide personal information, access strange links, download applications of unknown origin, or follow instructions from strangers.

- Impersonating bank employees to help reopen locked accounts

Accordingly, subjects take advantage of small transactions under the limit to apply biometric verification, thereby profiting from the victim's account.

The subject also lured users to install fake applications to collect personal information, thereby conducting transactions to appropriate property.

Specifically, the subjects collect personal information and bank account data of individuals from various sources. Then, they attempt to log into the victim's bank account to exploit sensitive information.

To gain control, the subject intentionally entered the wrong password multiple times, causing the account to be locked. Next, they impersonated a bank employee to contact the user to notify that the user's account was locked and instructed the user to download a malicious application to scan the QR code containing the malicious code to collect important personal information.

The Information Security Department recommends that people be cautious of calls from individuals claiming to be bank employees; do not provide personal information, OTP codes, or access strange links or applications. When receiving information about a locked account, people can go directly to the bank to handle the situation, and absolutely do not follow the requests of strange individuals.
