Rescue of 12 citizens kidnapped and sold abroad

(NLDO)- The Vietnamese representative agency in Cambodia said that the flow of workers going to Cambodia to work illegally and becoming victims is too large.

On February 15, the Department of Home Affairs of Hai Phong City said that in just the first two months of 2025, the number of cases of citizens in Hai Phong being kidnapped, tricked into being sold to Cambodia and rescued had reached 12.

According to information from the Hai Phong City Department of Home Affairs, recently, Vietnamese representative agencies in Cambodia have continuously received information and rescued hundreds of Vietnamese citizens, including Hai Phong citizens, who were lured and lured to Cambodia by individuals and organizations under the guise of "easy work, high salary" to work illegally at online fraud establishments.

From 2022 to 2024, the Department of Foreign Affairs coordinated with the Vietnamese Representative Office in Cambodia and the People's Committees of districts in the city to resolve and support the repatriation of 18 Hai Phong citizens rescued from fraud and labor exploitation rings in Cambodia. However, in the first 2 months of 2025 alone, the number of cases of citizens being kidnapped, tricked into being sold to Cambodia and rescued reached 12 (equal to 85% of the previous period).

According to the assessment of the Vietnamese Representative Office in Cambodia, the flow of workers going to Cambodia to work illegally and becoming victims is too large, and rescue work is difficult for many subjective and objective reasons.

Given the sophistication, complexity, and increasing trend of transnational fraud and human trafficking crimes, Mr. Le Khac Nam, Vice Chairman of Hai Phong City People's Committee, has directed the Departments, branches, sectors, organizations, People's Committees of districts and Thuy Nguyen City to strengthen propaganda and legal education on safe migration activities, regulations on entry, exit, and legal labor abroad; the tricks of "finding jobs online", "easy work, high salary" of human trafficking crimes in general and crimes of human trafficking to work in Cambodia in particular to raise public awareness.

Especially for those at risk of becoming victims such as teenagers, women, and people in poor rural areas.

The Vice Chairman of Hai Phong City People's Committee also assigned Hai Phong City Police to coordinate with the Department of Foreign Affairs and related agencies, units and localities to grasp information, organize investigations, verify and thoroughly and strictly handle individuals and organizations that entice citizens to illegally leave the country to work at "online fraud centers" and "disguised casinos" in Cambodia, and report to Hai Phong City People's Committee according to regulations.
