Nguyen Tien Linh is unlikely to play in the match against Laos. |
Currently, striker Nguyen Tien Linh still has pain in his knee. He had this pain in the match between Binh Duong and The Cong Viettel in round 15 of V.League. When he first joined the national team, Tien Linh did not practice with the team. It was not until the friendly match against Cambodia that Tien Linh completed the training plan set by the coaching staff. He sat on the bench and was only put on the field in the second half.
Overall, the player born in 1997 could not show much despite his great efforts. The Vietnamese team won Cambodia 2-1 with goals from Hai Long and Van Vi.
In the latest training session of the Vietnam national team, Nguyen Tien Linh continued to practice separately. Doctors advised the captain of Binh Duong Club to be careful with his injuries. The possibility of Tien Linh playing in the match against Laos is still uncertain.
If Nguyen Tien Linh cannot play, coach Kim Sang-sik will only have strikers like Dinh Thanh Binh, Bui Vi Hao and Pham Tuan Hai. None of them have good enough form to carry the Vietnamese team's attack. It is possible that the Korean coach will have to consider a different personnel plan for the match against Laos on March 25.
Vietnam will face Malaysia, Nepal and Laos in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers (which will take place according to FIFA's international competition schedule from March 2025 to March 2026). Being in the top seed pot and not having to face teams in the world's top 100, Vietnam will also avoid some of the strong teams in the remaining pots. All three opponents in the group are outside the world's top 130.
The 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers have 24 participating teams. These are the teams that did not pass the second qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup in Asia. The teams compete in a round-robin format (home and away) to calculate ranking points. Only the top teams will qualify for the Asian Cup finals in Saudi Arabia.
