Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh arrives in UAE to attend COP28

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh arrived in Dubai to attend COP28 and conduct bilateral activities from November 30 to December 3.

The plane carrying Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his wife Le Thi Bich Tran landed at Al Maktoum Airport, Dubai on the evening of November 30 (morning of December 1, Hanoi time). The Prime Minister began a working trip to attend the World Climate Action Summit within the framework of the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28).

At the airport to welcome the delegation were representatives of the COP28 Organizing Committee, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Vietnamese Ambassador to the UAE Nguyen Manh Tuan.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will attend and speak at important conferences, forums, and discussion sessions within the framework of COP28; and have bilateral meetings with leaders of countries and international organizations. Along with that, the Prime Minister will have bilateral activities with the UAE.

The Climate Action Summit was held within the framework of COP28 on December 1-2 with the participation of heads of state, heads of government, and leaders of international organizations. This event aims to create a forum for countries to make stronger commitments and actions in financial and technological contributions, and greenhouse gas emission reduction towards the implementation of the 2015 Paris Agreement goals.

At COP26 in 2021, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh announced Vietnam's commitment to achieving net zero emissions by 2050.

Vietnam and the UAE established diplomatic relations in August 1993. The UAE is Vietnam's leading trade and investment partner in the Middle East, with turnover consistently reaching 5 billion USD in recent years. The UAE has 38 direct investment projects in Vietnam with a total registered capital of 71.4 million USD. 4,500 Vietnamese workers are working in the UAE.
