According to Yonhap news agency, on March 22, the Ministry of Science, ICT and Technology of South Korea said that the country will promote the development of the nuclear energy industry, to participate in global efforts to expand the use of nuclear power as a clean energy source.
The announcement was made at the Nuclear Energy 2024 Conference in Belgium. The conference was attended by 38 countries supporting nuclear energy, including the US, Japan, China and the UK. This is the first multilateral international conference in the field of nuclear energy.
Previously, at the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) in December 2023, South Korea was one of 22 countries that signed a joint statement supporting the goal of tripling nuclear power capacity by 2050.
