Prime Minister asks WEF to help Vietnam attract high-quality investment

The Prime Minister suggested that WEF continue to accompany and support connections with member businesses to help Vietnam attract high-quality investment, especially in the fields of high technology, energy conversion, digital transformation, and strategic infrastructure.

Within the framework of the WEF Tianjin Conference, on the afternoon of June 26, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Professor Klaus Schwab, founder and Executive Chairman of WEF, and witnessed the signing ceremony of the Vietnam-WEF Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for cooperation in the period of 2023-2026.

In a friendly, open and joyful atmosphere, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Professor Klaus Schwab discussed the world economic situation, new development trends, Vietnam's socio-economic development results and the cooperative relationship between Vietnam and WEF.

Sharing about the situation and prospects of Vietnam's economy, the Prime Minister emphasized that Vietnam continues to adhere to the goal of stabilizing the macro economy and promoting growth.

The Prime Minister suggested that WEF continue to accompany and support connections with member businesses, helping Vietnam attract high-quality investment, especially in the fields of high technology, energy conversion, digital transformation, and strategic infrastructure, while continuing to strengthen exchanges on world development trends and providing policy advice to help Vietnam enhance its competitiveness, improve the investment and business environment, and adapt to new regulations and trends.

Professor Klaus Schwab expressed his pleasure at welcoming the Vietnamese Government leaders to attend the WEF Tianjin Conference this year and said that Vietnam's participation and contribution at the conference will bring an optimistic story of economic recovery in the context of many challenges facing the global economy.

The WEF President expressed his impression of Vietnam's socio-economic recovery and macro-economic stability; emphasized his strong commitment to promoting cooperation with Vietnam; and affirmed close coordination with relevant agencies to propose and implement substantive cooperation projects that are in line with Vietnam's interests and WEF's strengths.

The Prime Minister and Professor Klaus Schwab had an in-depth discussion on major topics of the annual WEF Conference taking place in Davos, Switzerland, scheduled for January 2024.

The two sides agreed that technology and artificial intelligence (AI), especially the application of new technologies and AI in manufacturing, services, agricultural development as well as skills training, should be the topics of interest at the Conference. Professor Klaus Schwab expressed his impression of the dynamism of the young generation of Vietnam in the face of technological development, saying that this is one of Vietnam's major competitive advantages.

Professor Klaus Schwab respectfully invited Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to attend the WEF Forum in January 2024 in Davos. The Prime Minister invited Professor Klaus Schwab and WEF leaders to visit Vietnam soon, spend time speaking and inspiring Vietnamese youth about new development trends in the world. The two sides agreed to arrange visits in the near future.

On this occasion, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son and WEF Executive Chairman Borge Brende signed the Vietnam-WEF Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for cooperation for the 2023-2026 period, witnessed by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Professor Klaus Schwab.

The MOU is an important foundation to promote Vietnam-WEF cooperation in the new period, focusing on 6 key areas, including (i) Innovation in the food sector; (ii) Developing innovation and green transformation skills; (iii) Industrial clusters towards net zero emissions; (iv) Promoting plastic actions, including the Global Plastics Partnership Action Program (GPAP); (v) Financing for renewable energy transition; (vi) Cooperation in digital transformation and promoting the establishment of the Fourth Industrial Revolution Center. The signing of the MOU helps Vietnam access resources, experience as well as participate in WEF's global programs, thereby establishing a synchronous ecosystem to promote new growth drivers, attract investment, and enhance national competitiveness.
