Driver's license renewal procedures are no longer cumbersome thanks to digitalization

(NLDO) - In Da Nang City, people who need to renew their driver's license only need to have a health check. The new license will be delivered to their home.

The Department of Transport of Da Nang City said that as of September 2024, the department had received and processed about 11,000 applications for online driver's license renewal at level 4 out of a total of more than 30,000 applications.

The online renewal of the entire level 4 driver's license helps reduce pressure on Department of Transport officers and reduce travel and waiting time for people.

The leader of the Department of Transport of Da Nang City said that the above results were achieved thanks to the coordination with the Department of Information and Communications, the Department of Health and related agencies and units to deploy online public services to exchange driving licenses in the city.

People go to Lien Chieu District Medical Center for health check-ups to renew their driver's licenses.

At the end of 2022, the Department of Transport of Da Nang City deployed a full-process public service (level 4) for driver's license renewal procedures. After 3 months of implementation, the number of online renewal applications was very low, with only 41 online applications out of nearly 5,952 direct license renewal applications.

This caused congestion and crowds at the Department's Reception and Results Department. In early March 2023, the Department of Transport of Da Nang City coordinated with Ngu Hanh Son Medical Center to conduct a trial of connecting driver health examination data from the Ministry of Health's system to perform online driver's license renewal.

This model has been replicated in many other medical facilities in the area. Since then, the rate of online applications for driver's license renewal procedures has increased significantly.

According to statistics, from March 14, 2023 to July 5, 2023, a total of 1,031 applications were received and processed; 25 times more than the same period in 2022.

Currently, Da Nang residents who need to renew their driver's license only need to go for a health check at one of 11 medical facilities in the city, then receive a new license at home.

11 medical facilities include: Ngu Hanh Son District Medical Center, Hoa Khanh General Clinic, Son Tra District Medical Center, Lien Chieu District Medical Center, Nam Lien Chieu General Hospital, Thien Phuoc General Clinic, Hospital 199 - Ministry of Public Security, Medical Center - Da Nang University, Phuoc An General Clinic, Hoa Vang District Medical Center and Thien Nhan High-Tech Medical Diagnosis Center.

People only need to go to these facilities to be supported by staff to perform the service of changing their driver's license, pay fees online and receive results at home via post without having to go directly to the One-Stop Department of the Department of Transport as before.

Mr. Nguyen Quoc Quyen, living in Lien Chieu district, said that issuing and exchanging driver's licenses like this is very convenient for people.

While doing this, after completing the health check, Mr. Quyen was supported by the staff of Lien Chieu District Medical Center to connect the health check data to the Health Insurance Assessment Portal and synchronize the data on the National Public Service Portal, and change the driver's license. After paying the fee, Mr. Quyen just waited for the day the post office staff delivered the driver's license to his home.
