TPO - Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh said that success belongs to those who dare to take the lead - Ben Tre has boldly created an open environment to call for and roll out the red carpet for investors in new energy and renewable energy. Hopefully, Ben Tre province will soon become a model Hydrogen energy center in the country.

On October 2, the People's Committee of Ben Tre province organized a workshop on new energy and renewable energy - investment potential and resources. This is one of a series of events of the Ben Tre Investment Promotion Conference in 2024. Attending were Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh and leaders of many ministries and branches.

Mr. Tran Ngoc Tam - Chairman of Ben Tre Provincial People's Committee - said that with a 65km long coastline, the province has great potential to develop renewable energy and new energy projects. Currently, Ben Tre province has granted investment policies and focused on implementing 19 wind power projects with a total capacity of more than 1,007 MW, of which 9 projects have completed construction and commercial operation, the remaining investors are completing investment procedures.

The People's Committee of Ben Tre province has submitted to the Prime Minister a proposal to implement the Ben Tre Green Hydrogen Complex Project to pilot the hydrogen production industry in Vietnam, with solar and wind power projects producing and consuming energy to provide input for the hydrogen production project. Producing new energy sources such as hydrogen is identified as one of the key industries that Ben Tre will focus on developing in the coming years.

Ms. Phan Thi Thang - Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade - said that developing renewable energy and fuel sources from renewable energy such as hydrogen is one of the major orientations in Vietnam's energy development strategy until 2050. Currently, electricity output from renewable energy reaches 43.96 billion kWh, accounting for more than 20.5% of the total electricity output of the system. The 8th Electricity Plan has been approved by the Prime Minister, Ben Tre province by 2030 is planned to develop 1,100 MW of wind power; 10 MW of biomass power; 18 MW of electricity produced from waste; and 17 MW of rooftop solar power.

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh welcomed Ben Tre as the first locality to organize a workshop on new energy, renewable energy, especially hydrogen energy. This demonstrates the province's vision and aspiration to develop green, sustainable energy in line with global trends, and this is also a major policy of the Party. In particular, in the process of preparing documents for the 14th National Party Congress, the green transition content in these documents has increasingly accounted for a high proportion.

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh said that the workshop mentioned difficulties in law, technology, capital, and human resources for renewable energy, and that these problems have been recognized and will be overcome. The Government has completed the dossier of the revised Electricity Law, which will be submitted to the National Assembly at the session in October. The new law will pave the way for the development of renewable energy and offshore wind power.

"Success belongs to those who dare to take the lead - Ben Tre has boldly created an open environment to call for and roll out the red carpet for investors in new energy and renewable energy. I hope Ben Tre province will soon become a model Hydrogen energy center for the whole country," the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized.

According to the Prime Minister's decision, the total power capacity of the country by 2030 will be more than 150,489MW. Of which, solar power capacity is 12,836MW, accounting for 8.5% of the total installed capacity; total onshore wind power capacity is 21,880MW, accounting for 14.5%; offshore wind power is 6,000MW, equivalent to 4% of the total capacity; biomass and waste power are 2,270MW, equivalent to 1.5% of the total capacity. The target capacity for hydrogen production from renewable energy and other processes with carbon capture is about 100,000 - 500,000 tons/year by 2030, reaching about 10-20 million tons/year by 2050.
