Tree Planting Festival 2024: Thousands of new trees planted on seas and islands

During the 2024 Spring Tree Planting Festival, thousands of new trees were planted by naval officers and soldiers, contributing to adding green to the homeland's sea and islands.

Navy Region 5: each agency and unit is a flower garden

On the morning of February 15, in Phu Quoc city (Kien Giang province), the Naval Region 5 Command held the launching ceremony of "Tree planting festival to forever remember Uncle Ho" Spring Giap Thin 2024.

Speaking at the ceremony, Colonel Le Van Huong, Deputy Political Commissar of Naval Region 5, asked officers and soldiers in the entire Region 5 to deeply understand the meaning and importance of planting trees, promote self-awareness, awareness, responsibility, and actively participate in planting, caring for, managing, and protecting trees, flower beds, and ornamental plants so that each agency and unit is a green, fresh flower garden and tree garden.

Colonel Le Van Huong also noted that agencies and units must research, learn, and select tree varieties suitable for planning, soil, climate, and weather conditions in the area, in conjunction with implementing the motto "Plant a tree, grow a good tree", without showing off or formality.

According to the plan, in 2024, Naval Region 5 will continue to thoroughly grasp and effectively implement the movement "Tet tree planting to forever remember Uncle Ho"; organize reviews, adjustments, supplements, and develop plans for planting and caring for trees, flower beds, and ornamental plants to ensure practicality, effectiveness, and suitability to the actual conditions of each agency and unit.

Truong Sa: planting trees contributes to spiritual education

On February 14, more than 1,000 trees were newly planted by the military and civilians of the islands of Truong Sa island district (Khanh Hoa province). In addition, more than 2,000 trees of various types in the island campus were cared for and pruned on this occasion.

The newly planted trees include: coconut, candleberry, Indian almond, tea tree and some fruit trees. These are trees with strong vitality. Although they are easy to grow, on remote islands with scarce fresh water, for a tree to take root and grow well requires a lot of effort and time from the officers, soldiers and people of the islands to care for it.

For many years in Truong Sa island district, before completing their duties on the island, each officer and soldier has proactively planted and propagated one or two trees to give to the island. The rows of newly planted trees, cared for by many generations of officers and soldiers, not only help to green the island points but also contribute to educating the spirit, will, and efforts to overcome difficulties for the forces at the forefront.

Navy Region 2: planted more than 3,000 new trees

In Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, on February 14, the Naval Region 2 Command also held a launching ceremony for the "Tree Planting Festival to forever remember Uncle Ho" and took care of trees, ornamental plants and strengthened the barracks landscape.

Colonel Le Ba Quan, Deputy Commander - Chief of Staff of Naval Region 2, said: In the coming time, Naval Region 2 Command and its affiliated units will continue to plant over 3,000 new trees. Of these, there are 1,000 cajuput trees, 420 star trees, 550 oil trees, 165 mahogany trees, 530 royal poinciana trees, 520 bougainvillea trees, etc.

A priceless gift to future generations

Attending and speaking at the launching ceremony of the Spring Tree Planting Festival 2024 on February 15 in Tuyen Quang province, President Vo Van Thuong emphasized: "Each tree planted is a priceless gift to the future for future generations."

According to President Vo Van Thuong, implementing Uncle Ho's teaching: "Spring is the Tree Planting Festival - Making the country more and more Spring", from Spring 1960 until now, every time Tet comes, our people organize "Tree Planting Festival". More than 6 decades have passed, "Tree Planting Festival forever remembers Uncle Ho" has become a tradition, a custom, a cultural beauty, a widespread mass movement that brings great benefits to the country. Tree planting and afforestation have contributed to protecting and improving the ecological environment, improving the landscape, proactively preventing and combating natural disasters, responding to climate change, making an important contribution to socio-economic development, improving the quality of people's lives.

The President stated that in the context of increasingly severe global climate change and biodiversity loss, Vietnam's consistent and continuous policy is to aim for sustainable development, determined to respond to climate change, build a green economy, a circular economy, and be environmentally friendly. Vietnam is gradually implementing its commitments with the support of developed countries in technology and finance to achieve net zero emissions by 2050 (Net Zero). Therefore, the task of protecting the ecological environment, planting trees, and protecting forests is becoming increasingly important.

The President requested that all sectors and levels organize propaganda and education activities well so that everyone is fully aware of the great significance and practical benefits of planting trees, protecting and developing forests; strictly implement the provisions of the law on forest protection and development, contributing to the sustainable protection of the ecological environment. The organization of tree planting must ensure quality, practicality, efficiency, not show off in form, creating conditions to mobilize the participation of a large number of mass organizations; focus on selecting indigenous plants, multi-purpose forest trees, suitable for weather, soil and crop conditions in each locality to ensure that after planting, the trees have a high survival rate, grow well, develop well and effectively.
