The practical actions of Ga Ry Border Guard Station contribute to firmly consolidating the "people's hearts and minds" and enhancing the trust of border residents in the Party and State.
In mid-January 2025, I had the opportunity to return to Ga Ry, a border commune of Tay Giang district, Quang Nam province, where Ga Ry Border Guard Station is located. The saying "The station is home, the border is the homeland, the people are blood brothers" is not just a catchphrase, but has become a faithful oath of the soldiers wearing green uniforms here.
For border security
Ga Ry Border Guard Station manages 27.3 km of border with 12 landmarks, from 691 to 702. This border line passes through 2 communes of Ga Ry and Ch'om of Tay Giang district, bordering Ka Lum district, Sekong province of Laos.
Stationed in a large area, where people's lives in the border area are still difficult, the unit always receives attention, leadership and direction from the Party Committee, the Provincial Border Guard Command, the District Party Committee and the People's Committee of Tay Giang district.
Soldiers of Ga Ry Border Post and youth union members of Ch'om and Ga Ry communes build a training ground.
Lieutenant Colonel Do Quang Vinh, Chief of Ga Ry Border Guard Station, said that over the years, the relationship between the army and the people here has always been close, the soldiers have wholeheartedly helped the people stabilize their lives, the people are the "eyes and ears", actively participating in the movement to protect national security. The people's work is often also the work of the officers and soldiers. "The unit is always proactive and timely, not passive or surprised in any situation. At the same time, it closely coordinates with the police force, the government and the people where the unit is located to consolidate a solid "people's heart position", maintain political and social stability from the grassroots, thereby creating a foundation for the work of firmly protecting the national border security and sovereignty" - Chief Do Quang Vinh said.
In fact, over the years, Ga Ry Border Guard Station has done a good job of coordinating patrols and thanks to that, the system of border lines and border markers managed by the unit has been kept intact and safe. In 2024 alone, Ga Ry Border Guard Station coordinated with the police, militia and people to conduct 12 patrols/260 officers, soldiers and people participated. In addition, the unit also conducted bilateral patrols with the border protection force of Laos, thereby promptly detecting and handling violations of the law on border management and protection regulations. The system of border lines and border markers has always been maintained, contributing to building a peaceful, stable and developed border.
In addition to the task of patrolling and protecting the border, officers and soldiers of Ga Ry Border Guard Station attach special importance to mass mobilization work. In the middle of a "remote and remote" area - where the people's level of education and legal knowledge is not high, the soldiers "go to every alley, knock on every door" to propagate, mobilize, instruct and encourage.
Solidarity between army and people
Talking about the "people's hearts and minds" in the border area, station chief Do Quang Vinh affirmed that this is an extremely important task of the Ga Ry Border Guard Station. Because history has affirmed that the task of protecting border security and sovereignty cannot be completed without relying on the strength of the "people's hearts and minds". When the entire community is aware of and participates in maintaining and protecting border security, it will create a solid wall against all threats from the outside.
Joint patrol of the Vietnam - Laos border between Ga Ry Border Guard Station and the neighboring country's border force
The "people's hearts" that the green-uniformed forces here have built are not only limited to the border markers, the two communes of Ch'om and Ga Ry, but also beyond the border when maintaining good Vietnam - Laos friendship with the people of the border communes and the border patrol forces of the neighboring country. Typically, on the occasion of Laos' annual Bunpimay New Year, Ga Ry Border Guard Station coordinates with the border protection forces of the neighboring country to organize the giving of New Year gifts to the people of A Bul and Panool villages, Ka Lum district, Sekong province.
In addition, the leadership and command of Ga Ry Border Post always pay attention to, create conditions for, and encourage officers, soldiers, union members, and youth to promote the spirit of vanguard in movements, overcome all difficulties and hardships, and firmly protect the system of border lines and national border markers. On the occasions of Youth Month and "Border March", the Youth Union of Ga Ry Border Post organizes many activities to connect with organizations, local authorities, and people, contributing to strengthening the solidarity relationship between the army and the people.
During the "Youth Month" of 2024, the Youth Union of Ga Ry Border Guard Station coordinated with the Youth Union of Ch'om and Ga Ry communes to carry out many practical activities, such as transporting more than 100 cubic meters of earth and rock to build a training ground; organizing the clearing of more than 4 km of patrol roads; and organizing the inspection of the defense works system. Lieutenant Hoang Anh Tai shared: "Those meaningful actions demonstrate the strong solidarity between the army and the people. We always stand side by side with the people to build a solid people's border defense posture, maintaining the beautiful image of Uncle Ho's soldiers in the hearts of the people".
It can be said that the image of the soldier wearing the green uniform of Ga Ry has been deeply imprinted in the minds of the people in the border areas of Ga Ry and Ch'om. Through the movement activities and concrete actions towards the masses, it has contributed to strengthening the sense of responsibility of each person for the work of managing and protecting the national border. More importantly, it firmly consolidates the "people's hearts and minds", enhancing the people's trust in the Party, the State in general and the Border Guard force in particular.
And perhaps, only when we come to remote places of the Fatherland, witness with our own eyes the border patrol activities, see with our own eyes the work of officers and soldiers for the people in the highlands, can we appreciate the hardships, difficulties but also the affection between the army and the people in the remote border area of Ga Ry - Ch'om!
