After two times of organization, the writing contest "Father and daughter" has left many deep impressions with memories, intimate and simple memories, imbued with humanistic spirit, becoming a forum for people to express their feelings.
On April 19, 2023, the first "Father and Daughter" writing contest organized by Vietnam Family Magazine was officially launched.
Sharing the reason for choosing the writing contest with the theme of fathers and daughters, Journalist Ho Minh Chien - Editor-in-Chief of Vietnam Family Magazine, Head of the Organizing Committee said that this is an opportunity for fathers to express their feelings for their daughters; a place for daughters to speak from the heart to their fathers; a place for us to tell beautiful, touching stories about the love between fathers and daughters; thereby honoring family affection.
“If family is the cradle of life, then there father and daughter are considered a special bond that the father, no matter how silently, will spend his whole life to protect and care for. And the daughter, no matter how grown up she goes, will always return to being small and innocent by her father’s side.
We see there the magical values of happiness sparkling. It is also a new land, a source of emotions that no one has tapped to create what does not yet exist,” said journalist Ho Minh Chien.
Notably, after only 2 months of its official launch, the contest has created an effect and spread widely, attracting readers of all ages, both domestically and internationally, with more than 800 entries.
More than 800 articles were sent, all of which were touching stories, imbued with the spirit of humanity. Reading each article, I felt as if a warm fire was being lit in each family, warming fates and lives; healing wounds, forgiving mistakes and spreading happy smiles.
In particular, there were images and articles sent that the Organizing Committee could not forget. Among them, the image of a skinny grandmother, her hair streaked with white and black strands, still wearing a sun-protection shirt when she took the bus more than 50km from her hometown (Yen Phong, Bac Ninh) to the Gia Dinh Viet Nam Editorial Office to submit her granddaughter's handwritten entry made the Organizing Committee extremely emotional.
Or many authors sent letters to the Organizing Committee with their entries, expressing their emotions when thanks to the "Father and Daughter" contest, they were able to write and say things that they had been holding in their hearts for so long. Speaking out about the feelings that have been in their hearts is also a form of courage, a need to release hidden feelings, to stand up, move on and love.
After the first year of organization with many impressions and widespread influence, the second "Father and Daughter" writing contest in 2024 continues to be an opportunity to continue writing unfinished stories with your loved ones.
On the morning of March 27, 2024, Vietnam Family Magazine continued to launch the second "Father and Daughter" writing contest. This time, the number of entries sent surprised even the Organizing Committee when by the deadline for receiving entries (June 10, 2024), there were nearly 1,000 entries from authors across the country and some readers abroad.
As Journalist Ho Minh Chien - Head of the Organizing Committee once shared: “We used to wonder if the second time the contest would be old? Would the authors still be as enthusiastic about participating as the first time? But then, in just the first week of launching, there were more than 100 entries sent to the Gia Dinh Viet Nam editorial office. And after two and a half months, the number of entries reached nearly 1,000. That shows that the love between father and daughter never gets old. It is still a sacred emotional bond, connecting the good values of Vietnamese families that if not expressed through written pages, it is difficult to put into words.
In particular, this year, the contest has the participation of many famous people, loved by the public. This also contributes to making the writing contest on the theme of Father and Daughter more attractive, with a wider influence.
Notably, nearly 1,000 entries to the “Father and Daughter” writing contest seem to have no repeated stories or situations. Each fate, each person has a part of history to tell, creating a vivid picture of father-daughter love, of the core values of Vietnamese families for generations.
Evaluating the contest “Father and Daughter”, Mr. Le Quoc Minh - Member of the Party Central Committee, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association said that “Father and Daughter” has gone beyond the scope of a writing contest and has become a forum for people to express their feelings. It is the filial piety of a daughter for her father, the noble sacrifice of a father for his daughter. Many stories have been shared not only for the writers and contestants but also for readers and the public to see a part of their lives in them. And for that reason, publishing a publication called “Father and Daughter” is also a very meaningful thing.
“The press in the current period is facing many difficulties and challenges, but it also opens up opportunities for breakthroughs. In addition to news activities on the newspaper, editorial offices have combined to organize many meaningful media events. But choosing what to organize and how to do it to create a unique mark is not easy. After the impressions from the Press Cup and now the Father and Daughter writing contest, I hope that the Vietnam Family Magazine will continue to have many new ideas and organize more useful and interesting activities. The Vietnam Journalists Association always supports and accompanies such meaningful events,” said Mr. Le Quoc Minh.
Following the success of the previous two seasons, this year, Vietnamese Family in collaboration with Hanoi University organized the launching ceremony of the 3rd writing contest on the topic "Father and Daughter" in 2025 to continue to be a forum to create a special bond for the close affection between father and daughter.
The 3rd writing contest on the topic "Father and Daughter" in 2025 will be officially announced on March 14 at Hanoi University (Nguyen Trai Street, Nam Tu Liem District, Hanoi City). With many innovations, this year's contest will create more opportunities for children to express their feelings to their parents as well as help fathers express their love for their daughters.
