Attending the opening ceremony were Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Security of Laos, General Vilay Lakhamphong; Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos, Mr. Nguyen Ba Hung; Secretary of the City Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Council of Vientiane City, Mr. Anouphap Tounalom; and many representatives of relevant ministries and branches of Laos and Vietnam.
Vientiane residents and international tourists to Laos can easily book Xanh SM taxis through the Xanh SM Laos app on the App Store and Play Store like other ride-hailing companies. Customers can also hail a taxi directly on the street. Information about routes and fares will be made public and transparent on each trip. Initially, Xanh SM Laos will use the VinFast VF 5 Plus model, painted in the brand's signature cyan-green color, operating in Vientiane. The number of vehicles is expected to increase to 1,000 and expand to the famous tourist town of Vang Vieng (Vientiane) as well as other provinces and cities such as Luang Prabang, Savannakhet, Champasak... in the next phases.
SM Green Electric Taxi on the streets of Laos
With plans to expand operations nationwide, Xanh SM is expected to create thousands of new jobs in Laos, opening up attractive career development opportunities for local people. In particular, each Xanh SM Laos driver will be oriented to develop into a "green ambassador" directly connecting customers with the brand, contributing to enhancing the green - clean, environmental image of Lao tourism. Speaking at the event, Secretary of the City Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Council of Vientiane City - Mr. Anouphap Tounalom said that in Laos, the trend of using electric vehicles is increasing, especially in big cities like Vientiane.
Mr. Tounalom emphasized that the launch of the SM Green Taxi service in Laos is a commendable step, not only helping Lao people and tourists from now on have more quality transportation options, but also actively contributing to environmental protection in Laos, helping the Lao Government to complete the national goal that by 2030, 30% of all vehicles in circulation will be electric vehicles.
According to Mr. Anouphap, in the context of Laos's economic difficulties, the launch of GSM in Laos not only helps create jobs and income for people, supporting Laos in overcoming economic difficulties, but is also very timely, when 2024 is not only the Lao Tourism Year but also the year Laos holds the rotating chairmanship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
The Vientiane Party Secretary also welcomed pioneering enterprises such as GSM to invest and contribute to the Lao Government's sustainable development goals; committed that the local government will have the best support measures to create a favorable business environment for GSM to develop strongly in Laos.
Also at the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Nguyen Ba Hung affirmed that the capacity of GSM in particular, as well as the presence of VinFast electric vehicles in general, not only contributes positively to the implementation of Laos' national strategy, but is also a great source of inspiration and motivation to encourage many Vietnamese enterprises to choose Laos as a destination for investment and development activities in the coming time.
Ambassador Nguyen Ba Hung emphasized that the presence of GSM will not only stop at providing a green and smart mobility service, but will also be the beginning of many other investment activities of large Vietnamese enterprises and economic groups in Laos in the future.
