African swine fever (ASF) is currently re-emerging and developing complicatedly in a number of provinces and cities across the country, negatively affecting livestock farmers as well as food supply... In this situation, Thanh Hoa province is focusing on implementing solutions to prevent and control the disease from entering the area.
Strictly implement sanitation, disinfection, environmental detoxification, and destruction of dangerous pathogens.
Since the beginning of the year, the country has had over 410 outbreaks of ASF in 40 provinces and cities, with the number of infected, dead and culled pigs increasing by 53.74% over the same period. Currently, in the provinces bordering Thanh Hoa, Son La, Hoa Binh, Ninh Binh, Nghe An, the epidemic is very complicated and tends to increase. In addition, Thanh Hoa is a province with a large pig herd, with about 1.3 million pigs, mainly concentrated in key livestock districts such as Nong Cong, Yen Dinh, Trieu Son, Tho Xuan... with high livestock density; small-scale livestock farming still accounts for a high proportion.
In addition, the control of transportation, trade of pigs, pig products and slaughter control has encountered many difficulties. After a period of disease control, some households have become complacent and negligent.
Currently, the hot weather is prolonged, the disease transmission is very complicated; there is no medicine to treat it, so the risk of the disease invading, recurring and causing harm in our province is very high...
Faced with that reality, the work of disease prevention and control is posing higher requirements, requiring the agricultural sector, localities, and livestock households not to be subjective or negligent. In particular, localities need to focus on seriously implementing a number of solutions such as: Organizing strict management of herd expansion and pig herd restoration to ensure biosafety farming conditions; focusing resources on disease surveillance to villages; strictly implementing environmental sanitation, disinfection, and detoxification; applying biosafety measures in livestock farming...
In addition, focus on reviewing and organizing additional vaccination against dangerous infectious diseases in pigs; especially in localities with high risk of epidemics, ensuring the rate reaches over 80% of the total herd at the time of vaccination.
At the same time, arrange funds to fully prepare means, materials, tools, disinfectants, lime powder, vaccines... to promptly respond to and suppress outbreaks as soon as they occur in a small area.
The provincial Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine is strengthening the organization of sampling for ASF surveillance to promptly detect and warn of early disease risks in the province, establishing rapid response teams to direct and guide the handling of outbreaks as soon as they appear, preventing the disease from spreading widely; strictly controlling the transportation and trading of pigs and pig products into the area; promptly detecting and strictly handling violations in the trading and transportation of pigs not in accordance with regulations.
