That is a notable point in the planning of Ca Mau airport for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, recently approved by the Minister of Transport.
Ca Mau Airport is currently a level 3C airport according to the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
Regarding infrastructure, Ca Mau airport has a 2-storey passenger terminal, designed capacity of 200,000 passengers/year, serving 150 passengers/peak hour; 1 runway 1,500m long, 30m wide, asphalt concrete structure ensuring operation of ATR 72 aircraft and equivalent, Embraer E190 aircraft with reduced load; 1 taxiway connecting the runway and the apron with 2 aircraft parking positions.
According to the planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, Ca Mau airport (commonly known as airport) will function as a domestic airport, an airport for shared civil and military use.
In the period 2021-2030, Ca Mau airport will be a 4C airport according to ICAO standard code and a level II military airport; the capacity is about 1 million passengers and 1,000 tons of cargo/year.
The type of aircraft operated at Ca Mau airport is coded aircraft such as Airbus A321, A320 and equivalent instead of small aircraft such as ATR 72, Embraer E190 to reduce the load as present.
By 2050, Ca Mau airport will be a 4C airport and a level II military airport. However, during this period, the airport capacity will be increased to about 3 million passengers/year and 3,000 tons of cargo/year. The types of aircraft used will still be code C such as Airbus A320, A321 and equivalent.
To ensure the above exploitation capacity, in the period of 2021-2030, Ca Mau airport will build a new runway 2,400m long, 45m wide and maintain it until 2050. At the same time, additional taxiways and parking lots will be built to accommodate 4 aircraft parking positions and increase to 10 parking positions in the period of 2050.
In the period 2021-2030, the current passenger terminal of Ca Mau airport will be expanded to accommodate a capacity of about 1 million passengers/year. The vision to 2050 is to plan a new passenger terminal in the area north of the runway, with a capacity of about 3 million passengers/year.
In addition, Ca Mau airport is planned with an air traffic control tower, navigation equipment system, general technical infrastructure system, cargo warehouse, road connecting to National Highway 1, extended Ton Duc Thang Street... to ensure exploitation in accordance with capacity.
The total land use demand of Ca Mau airport in the period of 2021-2030 is about 184.22 hectares, with a vision to 2050 of about 244.43 hectares.
The Ministry of Transport requested the People's Committee of Ca Mau province to update the planning content of Ca Mau airport into local planning; arrange and protect land funds in accordance with the approved planning, and be ready to respond when there is a need to develop and expand the airport according to the planning.
