3 people survived when plane crashed in icy Alaska

The Independent newspaper reported on March 25 that a pilot and two teenagers were lucky to survive after a small plane carrying them on a sightseeing trip crashed into icy Lake Tustumena in Alaska (USA).

The victims were rescued from the wreckage of the floatplane by members of the Alaska National Guard and taken to a hospital on the Kenai Peninsula with non-life-threatening injuries, according to local media. The identities of the pilot and two passengers were not immediately known, but officials told the AP they were immediate relatives.

A pilot flying over the area notified authorities after discovering the wreckage of the Piper PA-12 Super Cruiser near the eastern part of Lake Tustumena.

A search was launched on March 24 with the participation of the US Coast Guard and the Alaska State Police, after the plane departed from Soldotna Airport in the state on the afternoon of March 23 and failed to arrive at its scheduled landing place.

Initial information shows that the pilot's mobile phone connected to a transmitter in the Tustumena Lake area at around 5 p.m. on March 23.

Police dispatched a rescue helicopter to the scene and pledged to provide more information once the investigation is complete, according to Alaska News Now .

The father of the pilot who crashed said his son and two passengers survived and said he was relieved after hearing the news. The 38-year-old pilot, who lives in the Sterling area of ​​Alaska, said he was relieved.

Lake Tustumena covers more than 24,000 hectares and is described by the Alaska Department of Fish and Wildlife as an area "notorious for dangerous sudden winds," according to AP.
