The program is the first activity in a series of 3 programs responding to World Heart Day on September 29 and a series of events within the framework of "Young Doctors' Journey following Uncle Ho's teachings, volunteering for community health", towards the 9th National Congress of the Vietnam Youth Union, term 2024-2029 of VYPA.
At the program, more than 1,000 people in the city named after Uncle Ho were examined, tested, and screened for free for cardiovascular diseases, chronic kidney disease, and metabolic kidney disease. The team of volunteer doctors and nurses also checked their health and assessed potential risks related to cardiovascular disease and chronic kidney disease.
Through the advice of the Program's young medical team, people have better understood how to take care of their health, diet and healthy lifestyle to prevent serious related diseases.
According to Permanent Vice President and General Secretary of VYPA Nguyen Huu Tu, our country has more than 8.7 million adults with chronic kidney disease (accounting for 12.8% of the population). Meanwhile, Vietnam only has more than 400 hemodialysis units and provides dialysis services to about 30,000 people with end-stage kidney disease each year, equivalent to 30% of the country's needs.
The 2022 Vietnam Health Insurance report also shows that the cost of paying for hemodialysis is currently at the top of the payment list, estimated at more than 4 trillion.
"Early diagnosis and treatment of chronic kidney disease as well as slowing down the decline in kidney function and renal replacement therapy will bring significant and long-term economic benefits, while reducing the burden on the medical sector," said Mr. Nguyen Huu Tu.
