Vietnamese cinema has a number of projects adapted from Vietnamese literary works, including stories by writer Nguyen Nhat Anh.

Movie adaptation Nguyen Nhat Anh's stories always have appeal.

“The Girl from Yesterday” interweaves two stories of the past and present about a student named Thu. If when he was young, Thu was always proud of himself as a smart boy, able to easily bully and order around his neighbor Tieu Li, now, when he grows up, Thu is always miserable because he is “led by the nose” and “spun around like a cricket” by Viet An, the classmate he secretly loves.
The film is cute and humorous. The school-age love of Thu and Viet An is portrayed realistically. This project brought in 70 billion VND in revenue with a budget of 14 billion VND at that time.
The film “Mat Biec” is known as a special work by writer Nguyen Nhat Anh, telling about love in the world of teenagers. The film adaptation by director Victor Vu has scored with the audience, becoming one of the highest-grossing films of 2020 (the film was shown at the end of 2019).
“Mat Biec” - a love story with many levels revolving around Ngan's unrequited love for Ha Lan, his girlfriend with captivating eyes but stubborn personality.
The film also made the names of Tran Nghia, Truc Anh, Khanh Van... stars in one step. The work earned 180 billion VND, becoming the project with the highest revenue adapted from Nguyen Nhat Anh's stories to date.

2024, Vietnamese screen There are two other works adapted from Nguyen Nhat Anh's stories, including "Once Upon a Time There Was a Love Story" and "Kaleidoscope".
“Once Upon a Time There Was a Love Story” is a romantic drama that tells a heartbreaking love story between three classmates.
The film has just released a teaser trailer and poster, following a series of poetic first-look photos in Phu Yen last April. The teaser poster depicts Vinh's (played by Avin Lu) passionate eyes when looking at Mien (Ngoc Xuan) and Mien when looking at Phuc (Do Nhat Hoang). The film opens up a story of friendship and love that is romantic but no less complicated.
The peaceful, simple countryside setting in Phu Yen is also a highlight in the teaser trailer. The simple, peaceful life of the period 1992 - 1997 is shown through the main characters' appearance, costumes, daily necessities... "Once upon a time there was a love story" is scheduled to be released on November 1, 2024.
“Kaleidoscope” has also been adapted into a movie, directed by Vo Thanh Hoa. “Kaleidoscope” is a series of stories revolving around the interesting school life of three young children: Quy Rom, Tieu Long and Hanh. The work is also expected to be shown in theaters at the end of 2024.
According to many film experts, the reason why films adapted from Nguyen Nhat Anh's stories are popular with audiences is because of their closeness, the familiar childhood stories that most of us have experienced. Nguyen Nhat Anh's stories already have a brand name and a huge fan base.
Of the two upcoming projects this year, “Once Upon a Time There Was a Love Story” is more notable. The film is directed by a solid director and features a cast of famous young stars.
